Robert Thurston X Also present : Tom Parker, Terrapin Development Company (TDC), Guest Speaker; Kiaisha Barber, Director of Youth and Family Services; Joi Woods, Contract Secretary Guest Speaker Presentation The meeting began at 7:05 p.m. The formal business meeting was postponed until after the presentations from the guest speaker. I. Tom Parker , Terrapin Development Company (TDC) Tom Parker provided an overview of the Terrapin Development Company (TDC)discussing the organization’s mission statement, scope of work. Parker also highlighted TDC’s efforts and community partnerships to enhance College Park. Noted points discussed include: A. TDC and opportunities for development and partnership in College Park 1) Forgivable home loans to promote home ownership in College Park 2) The Discovery District Project (We Work, The Hotel, The Hall) 3) Intergenerational Co-Housing  TDC is currently monitoring market trends related to co-housing opportunities. 1   Committee members expressed interest co-housing to make College Park more attractive as a retirement destination for senior residents to age in place. 4) TDC’s current partnership with Brandywine Developing to include Class A office space and market rate residential space 5) Affordable Housing for Senior Residents seeking to age in place  Available programs include the CP Cup Home Ownership Program & the College Park New Neighbors Homeownership grant.  Aviation Landing Project is a mixed income residential product that will address some affordable housing concerns.  Parker noted the importance of intentional focus on products that are ADA compliant for housing products geared towards the AARP Livability project. 6) Walkable spaces & Senior Communities and Enhanced ride share opportunities  Erickson Senior Living Community a potential model  Currently, public transportation is not accessible from all neighborhoods in College Park because some neighborhoods lack walkable routes to reach public transportation. 7) Health and community services 1) Parker noted an identified need and intentional focus to identify healthcare providers as tenants in The Aster project. Parker also noted plans to house Urgent Care, Chiropractic, and Physical Therapy facilities in the project. 2) UM Capital Region Health at Largo The committee discussed pursuing opportunities to establish an AllCare Community Physician Facility. o An AllCare Community Physician Facility is coming to the Trader Joe’s complex. Committee members expressed interest in a partnership between TDC and UM Capital Region Health to establish options for Geriatric Care in College Park. 8) Committee feedback about senior needs including parking & gathering places  Parker noted a high level of awareness of parking constraints throughout College Park. TDC has a partnership with Off Campus Parking in an effort to mitigate some parking challenges. 9) Development partnership focus  The committee discussed the feasibility and opportunities for future development focused on bridging areas of the College Park community. 2  o Parker noted TDC’s efforts to bridge identified gaps by partnering with developers seeking to meet community needs through low minimum return thresholds. o Potential development opportunities Attick Towers Public Housing during the repositioning period. Formal Business Meeting Old Business I. Call to Order Mary Anne Hakes called the meeting to order at 8:08 p.m. II. Approval of Agenda for February 1, 2023 Arelis Perez motioned to approve the agenda for February 1, 2023 . Carissa Janis seconded the motion. All were in favor, none opposed. The motion passed. III. Approval of Minutes- November 2, 2022 Bonnie McClellan motioned to approve the minutes from November 2, 2022 , as corrected . Arelis Perez seconded t he motion passed. IV. Neighbors Helping Neighbors College Park (NHN-CP) Update The board discussed growth in visibility, the number of requests, and the increased availability of volunteers to fulfill requests. V. AARP Livability Robert Thurston provided a brief update. A. The AARP Livability met on 1/30/23 to review feedback from Civic Associations and City Committees positive feedback about the AARP Livability initiative. B. AARP Livability Domain focus 1) Members of the subcommittee are focusing on a specific domain to explore related opportunities and resources in College Park. The AARP Livability domains include Housing, Transportation, Social Participation, Communication and Information, Health Services and Community Support. VI. Other Discussion A. Route One Communities Care 1) The art sale raised $3K towards the purchase of meals for disadvantaged residents. B. Brainstorming Sessions The current focus includes: 1) Non-digital Communication Technology 3) Securing paper copies of resources exclusively found on the internet. 4) Partnering with CP Scholars to create hands-on opportunities for seniors to learn how to use technology. C. Appreciation for Terri Schum 3  The committee discussed gift ideas and formal acknowledgment for Terri Schum in honor of her work to advance the mission of the AARP Livability Project D. The next Corridor Conversations presentation is scheduled for 2/23/23 E. Exploring age-friendly university partnership with the UMD 1) Age-Friendly University (AFU) Global Network sharing resources with the aging community F. Advocating for a meeting space for Seniors at the North College Park Community Center VII. Guest s for future SAC Meeting s and AARP Livability subcommittee meetings The committee discussed coordinating schedules to determine the availability of guests: A. Carmel Roques, Maryland Secretary on Aging B. Andy Fellows, (AARP) C. Susan Hartman, President of CPCUP D. Marci LeFevre, Hyattsville Age-Friendly Program Lead VIII. City Update Kiaisha Barber provided updates, noted points included: A. The newsletter has moved to a bi-monthly format. B. Website updates are in progress for the Seniors Program C. Partnership with CP Scholars to host technology events for seniors starting in March 2023 IX. Next Meeting & Adjournment A. Next Meeting -March 1, 2023 B.
