Age Friendly College Park Workgroup Monday, February 24 , 2025 - 3:00 pm Virtual over Zoom Approved Minutes 1. The meeting was called to order at 3:04 p.m. by Janeen Miller, Age Friendly College Park (AFCP) Lead. Workgroup members present were Mary Anne Hakes, Gail Lovelace, Carol Gray, Robert Thurston, Darlene Nowlin and Heidi Weber. Guests: De Lacy Paisley and Councilmember Maria Mackie. 2. The agenda was approved without amendment, Hakes/Gray, 6-0. 3. The meeting minutes of January 27, 2025 were approved without amendment, Gray/Lovelace, 6-0. 4. Old business: a. Long term planning – Ms. Miller will circulate the draft she has begun. Further discussion was deferred because Ms. McClellan is absent. b. Affordable Housing Task Force – Mr. Thurston will reach out to his Council representatives about how this Workgroup can best be represented on the Task Force. Discussion of a possible District 4 nominee. Councilmember Mackie said the item is scheduled as a Worksession discussion at the Council meeting on April 8. 5. Domain updates: a. Communications –  Ms. Lovelace and Ms. Weber will undertake a website review. Ms. Miller will facilitate a meeting with Communications to convey the resulting recommendations.  Members requested articles be posted under the heading “Did You Know” on the website.  Discussion of branding to “Did You Know” or “Age Friendly College Park.”  Senior newsletter was mailed and posted on website, but not sent by Constant Contact. b. Health Services and Community Support –  Concentra medical care facility is geared toward employers and appears very busy. There are other urgent care facilities nearby.  An upcoming article will feature resources for residents experiencing food insecurity. c. Housing –  Continue to promote Housing Match program.  Awaiting information from County on Missing Middle Housing study. d. Social Participation –  Game Day Thursday 2/27; CPAE is interested in something similar at the Board and Brew  Library Tour 3/28; advertising has gone out.  CPAE and Explorations on Aging present the Senior Art Show 3/28  Working on: free tickets to events at The Clarice, UMD sporting events  Interest in repeating the cybercrime/scam presentation. e. Transportation –  Working with Planning on VEORide demonstration; date/location TBD.  Members will attend an upcoming UMD class for the 15-minute neighborhood project. 6. New Business:  Members reported that the City website calendar is not populated. At the bottom of the home page is the statement “There are no published events in the current month.” Ms. Miller will notify Communications.  Ms. Miller pulled up the calendar and showed them how to select “display all calendars” to find events. However, the Seniors Program events appear to be missing.  Winter Weather banner is outdated.  To be discussed at the next Seniors Advisory Committee meeting: schedule events at the College Park Woods Clubhouse, report on 15-minute neighborhood class project.
