Age Friendly College Park Workgroup Monday, March 24, 2025 - 3:00 pm Virtual over Zoom Approved Minutes 1. The meeting was called to order at 3:05 p.m. by Janeen Miller, Age Friendly College Park (AFCP) Lead. Workgroup members present were Mary Anne Hakes, Bonnie McClellan, Gail Lovelace, Carol Gray, Robert Thurston, Kathy Baer, and Heidi Weber. Guests: De Lacy Paisley and Greg Amodi. 2. The agenda was approved without amendment, Hakes/Lovelace, 7-0. 3. The meeting minutes of February 24, 2025 were approved without amendment, McClellan/Hakes, 7-0. 4. Old business: a. Long term planning – The group reviewed and revised the long-term planning document. b. Report on March 14 meeting with UMD Provost for Community Engagement: Mr. Thurston reported that Dr. Tania Mitchell informed us that the University Senate had adopted a Resolution in 2020 to pursue membership in the Age Friendly Universities Global Network, but because of COVID, it was never acted upon. They have resurrected it and are currently working on their application, which they will share with this group and the Mayor and Council. They hope to have the application submitted in June. 5. Domain updates: a. Communications –  Delay planning for the quarterly insert in the College Park Here and Now until we know that the funding was approved by the Mayor and Council. b. Health Services and Community Support –  Ms. Miller will reach out to Luminis Health/Doctors Community Hospital regarding community engagement events.  An upcoming article will feature resources for residents experiencing food insecurity.  The City has rolled out an emergency text alert system. c. Housing –  It does not appear that the City’s proposed FY 26 budget includes funding for the Aging In Place Home Repair program. Ms. Miller will confirm.  Review of the Nesterly proposal. OK to share with UMD Provost Dr. Mitchell. d. Social Participation –  Review of upcoming events.  Discussion of programming at the College Park Woods Clubhouse. Further discussion will take place at the next SAC meeting.  Mr. Amodi (County) agreed to schedule a Forever Fit class at the Clubhouse on June 18. e. Transportation –  The Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee would like to collaborate with this group on an AARP Walk Audit in May. Date and location TBD.  Tentative plan for a VEORide demonstration at the City Hall plaza. Details to follow.  Members attended the UMD class for the 15-minute neighborhood project. Report due in May.  CPCUP Transportation Subcommittee meets in April; Mr. Thurston will report.  Mr. Thurston will share information on the upcoming Purple Line Community Advisory Team meetings. 6. New Business:  Annual progress report to Mayor and Council: send your ideas to Ms. Miller with the subject line “Progress Report.” Written report vs. presentation at a M&C Meeting TBD.  Ms. Miller proposed the group publish a stand-alone brochure to consolidate resources that are listed on the website and in the resident guide.
