College Park Seniors Committee

Age Friendly College Park Workgroup Monday, April 28 , 2025 - 3:00 pm Virtual over Zoom Approved Minutes 1. The meeting was called to order at 3:05 p.m. by Janeen Miller, Age Friendly College Park (AFCP) Lead. Workgroup members present were Mary Anne Hakes, Bonnie McClellan, Carol Gray, Robert Thurston, Kathy Baer, Darlene Nowlin and Heidi Weber. Guests: De Lacy Paisley; Greg Amobi (Prince George’s Office of Community Relations). 2. The agenda was approved without amendment, Hakes/Thurston, 7-0. 3. The meeting minutes of March 24, 2025 were approved without amendment, Hakes/Baer, 7- 0. 4. Domain updates: a. Communications –  Our event fliers are being posted on neighborhood bulletin boards.  Brochure – draft expected in mid-May; cost estimate $360 for 500; quantity will be decided later.  Review of articles for Municipal Scene and College Park Here and Now. b. Health Services and Community Support –  No response from Luminis Health/Doctors Community Hospital regarding community engagement events.  Attick Towers Health Fair May 15: we have been asked to contribute, either financially or in-kind. To be discussed at the Seniors Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting next week.  Discussion of whether/how to distribute the UMD community health survey: it has been sent to Communications; wait for their lead.  Ms. McClellan updated the food security information for the brochure. c. Housing –  Mr. Thurston will be appointed to the Affordable Housing Task Force.  His neighborhood has had discussions with Maryland Legal Aid about potential federal cuts to subsidized housing and tenants’ rights.  Benefits to neighborhood stability provided by the College Park Academy magnet school.  Discussion of ongoing Purple Line meetings. d. Social Participation –  Review of first event on April 16 and grand opening event in May.  Have a discussion with our guests about our work and our domains to get their feedback (in addition to the survey).  Greg Amobi from the County confirmed their plans to host the Forever Fit program at the Clubhouse on June 18.  Ms. Miller will contact Michael Williams about College Park dollars and giving a presentation on Economic Development.   Trolley Trail Day June 14: we are tabling at the Farmer’s Market that day and the Hollywood Shopping Center is the starting point. Discussion of give-aways. e. Transportation –  Discussion of VEO Demo: need to confirm location. Tentative date is May 29. Follow up with Ms. Barber at the SAC meeting.  Mr. Thurston reported that the CPCUP Transportation Subcommittee is wrapping up their work on Vision 2030. They realize the importance of having the state at the table.  Mr. Thurston is attending the next Bicycle Pedestrian Advisory Committee meeting to discuss the Walk Audit idea. 5. New Business:  The group edited the draft progress report for the Council presentation on May 20. Ms. Miller will incorporate edits and send to Ms. Barber and the group.
