The meeting was called to order at 7:02pm by Ms. Oppelt.
1. The minutes from the May 23, 2016 meeting were reviewed. Mr. Walfield made the
motion to accept the minutes. Ms. Weene seconded the motion. All in favor; no
opposed.
2. Mr. Beavers stated there is $4608 in the CBE budget. There are no outstanding
reimbursements.
3. Ms. Oppelt shared pictures of the Prince Georges County landfill from a recent Sierra
Club field trip. This led into the discussion of the Pay as You Throw or SMART
campaign. Information from Ms. Balachandran was attached to a letter written by Ms.
Oppelt that has been sent to City Council. (CBE members received the information via
email prior to tonight’s meeting.) This will be discussed at the July 5 City Council
workshop. Ms. Oppelt, Ms. Balanchandran and Mr. Larsen stated they would be present
at the July 5 workshop.
4. Mr. Walfield commented on potentially hosting a residential energy efficiency workshop.
He distributed information received from PEPCO. The committee agreed it is a good
idea and asked Mr. Walfield to submit an outline of the workshop details and suggest a
few dates.
5. Mr. Adam Killian has been removed from the committee.
6. Ms. Garvin emailed to Ms. Oppelt that she is still working on the details on the dandelion
workshop and should have further information for the committee at the July meeting.
7. Mr. Dernoga stated that the County Urban Agriculture legislation, CB-25-2016, was
voted on and supported by the Prince Georges County Council Committee. It will be sent
to the full county council on July 19 for a vote.
8. The Litter Campaign awards will be distributed on September 13.
9. The Pollinators Workshop has been cancelled.
10. Ms. Oppelt is working on the CBE Annual Report. She will share a copy with the
committee prior to final submission to City Council.
11. Ms. Weene made a motion to cancel the August 2016 CBE meeting. Ms. Termini
seconded the motion. All in favor; no opposed.
12. The next meeting is scheduled for July 25 at 7:00pm at the United Methodist Church.
Ms. Weene made a motion to end the meeting. Ms, Termini seconded the motion. The meeting
ended at 8:10pm.
