Approved: 020418 FINAL Minutes Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute Committee Thursday January 4, 2018 7:00 p.m. City Hall, Lower Level Conference Room Members Present Absent Lilla Sutton, Co-Chair X Anita Wolley, Co-chair Conferenced In Dottie Chicquelo Conferenced In Britney Crawford X Dorie Arbach X Jordan Schakner X Thelma Lomax, Honorary Member X Also Present Monroe Dennis, Councilmember District Two X Sharon Fletcher, Staff Liaison X Joseph Morris, Berwyn Heights X Carleveva Thompson, Contract Secretary X I. Call to Order Ms. Sutton called the meeting to order at 7:01pm. II. Review, Amendment and Approval of Agenda The committee reviewed the agenda and Ms. Sutton proposed to amend the agenda and table the options for 2019 agenda topic until the next meeting. Mr. Dennis motioned to approve the amended agenda. Second by Ms. Arbach. All members were in favor and the agenda was approved as amended. III. Reading and Approval of Minutes The committee reviewed the minutes from the November 16, 2017 meeting. Mr. Dennis made a motion to approve the November meeting minutes as written. Second by Mr. Schakner. All members were in favor and the November minutes were approved as written. IV. Planning for 2018 event a. Finalize Proclamation – The committee reviewed the Proclamation and minor edits were made. Ms. Arbach made a motion to accept the Proclamation as amended. Second by Mr. Dennis. All members were in favor and the amended Proclamation is approved. b. Links to video for display during program - The committee watched three short children videos and two videos were selected to be presented during the event. c. Confirm order of program – The committee reviewed the order of the program and made the following changes: After the welcome by the MC, the Kid President video will be presented. A video of Dr. King’s speech, “Live Together as Brothers or Perish Together as Fools” will be presented before the reading of the proclamation. A kid explains history video will be presented after the keynote speaker. There will be placeholders inserted into the program for the opening and closing prayer. d. Collection of artwork from schools – Hollywood elementary school will supply artwork for the event. Ms. Fletcher has already provided them with supplies for the artwork. e. Reception volunteers needed – 3-4 volunteers are needed to help set up and staff the reception tables. V. Other Business - None VI. Options for 2019 – Tabled until next meeting. VII. Adjournment Mr. Dennis made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Second by Ms. Arbach. The meeting adjourned at 8:03pm. VIII. Next Meeting Thursday, February 1, 2018 at 7:00pm.
