Approved: 092618 Minutes Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute Committee Thursday March 15, 2018 7:00 p.m. City Hall, Lower Level Conference Room Members Present Absent Lilla Sutton, Co-Chair X Anita Wolley, Co-chair X Dottie Chicquelo X Britney Crawford X Dorie Arbach X Jordan Schakner X Thelma Lomax, Honorary Member X Also Present Monroe Dennis, Councilmember District Two X Sharon Fletcher, Staff Liaison X Carleveva Thompson, Contract Secretary X I. Call to Order Ms. Wolley called the meeting to order at 7:07pm. II. Review, Amendment and Approval of Agenda The committee reviewed the agenda and there were no changes. All members were in favor and the agenda was approved. III. Reading and Approval of Minutes The minutes from the February 1, 2018 meeting were reviewed by the committee. Ms. Arbach made a motion to approve the February meeting minutes as written. Second by Mr. Schakner. All members were in favor and the February minutes were approved as written. IV. Membership – Recruiting and Appointments No new members have been appointed to the committee. V. Preparing for 2019 a. Budget request has been submitted – Ms. Fletcher submitted the 2019 budget request and asked for an additional $2,000. b. Submit Venue request – Ms. Fletcher will submit the application for the venue request. c. Suggested changes to program format aa. Social Justice Organizations - Mr. Schakner suggested to have a speaker from a social justice organization or a union speaker present at the 2019 event. Suggested organizations by the committee were local 689, ACLU, and Southern Poverty Law Center. Ms. Fletcher will reach out to these organizations. bb. Keynote speaker - Mr. Comissiong was the selected keynote speaker for 2018, but could not attend. Mr. Comissiong was suggested as the keynote speaker for the 2019 event. Ms. Fletcher will contact Mr. Comissiong to check his availability. d. How to increase interfaith participation – Ms. Fletcher found a Judeo-Christian organization and will contact them to see if they can offer support for the 2019 event. There is an inter-faith group in Prince George’s County that Ms. Fletcher will also try to contact. VI. Other Business a. Stage Manager – Based on slight delays during the 2018 event, a stage manager is needed for the 2019 event to keep the event running smoothly. Mr. Schakner volunteered to be the stage manager for the 2019 event. b. Topics for committee discussion - Ms. Fletcher asked the committee to email her ideas or topics for upcoming meetings so these can be included in the meeting agenda. VII. Adjournment Ms. Arbach motioned to adjourn the meeting. Second by Mr. Schakner. The meeting adjourned at 7:45pm. VIII. Next Meeting The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 19, 2018 at 7:00pm.
