I. Call to Order
Ms. Sutton called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m.
II. Review and Approval of Agenda
Ms. Chicquelo requested to amend the agenda to add a suggestion for selection of MC
as Antjuan Seawright.
Ms. Wolley motioned to approve the amended agenda. Second by Ms. Chicquelo.
All members were in favor; no opposed. Motion carries, 4-0-0.
III. Review of the September 21, 2021 Meeting Minutes
The Committee reviewed the meeting minutes from the September 21, 2021 meeting.
Ms. Wolley motioned to approve the meeting minutes as presented. Second by
Ms. Chicquelo. All members were in favor; no opposed. Motion carries, 4-0-0.
IV. 2022 Event
a. Event date is confirmed for Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom
b. Selection of a theme
The Committee reviewed the following suggested event themes:
1) All Lives Matter in our Human Community; How can we demonstrate Dr. King’s
concept of inter-connectiveness?
2) What should restorative justice look like?
3) How do you demonstrate your service in Dr. King’s honor?

4) What would Dr. King say about the conditions around race, health and gender
equity that exist today?
A new theme was suggested: It’s the Heart that Matters
Ms. Wolley motioned to approve the theme “It’s the Heart that Matters”. Second by
Dr. Ticha. All members were in favor; no opposed. Motion carries, 4-0-0.
Ms. Sutton suggested that the remaining suggested themes, topics 2, 3, and 4 will be
questions for the panelists.
Ms. Chicquelo motioned to use the remaining themes as questions for the
panelists. Second by Ms. Wolley. All members in favor; no opposed. Motion
carries, 4-0-0.
c. Event Format
Mr. Seawright has been selected as the MC and panel moderator for the event. The
event will be 1.5 hour in length and will have the following format:
▫ Opening by Ms. Sutton and introductions of the Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem
▫ The Mayor will read the Proclamation
▫ Entertainment selection
▫ Panel Discussion
▫ Close with entertainment selection
The Committee discussed finding individuals to participate as panelists and ensuring
there is a diverse panel. Ms. Chicquelo will search for a representative of the Asian-
American community and confirm Mr. Seawright’s participation as MC and panel
moderator. Ms. Sutton will contact a SGI-USA member, Nam Ram to check
availability. Dr. Ticha suggested Dr. Kaminstein as a panel participant and will
confirm availability. Ms. Wolley has a suggestion for an additional panel member, but
will confirm with the individual before presenting to the Committee.
Performers will need to be contacted to confirm availability for the event.
V. Next Meeting Date
The next meeting is scheduled on November 16, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. It was proposed to
hold an additional November meeting on November 2, 2021 at 6:00 p.m.
VI. Adjournment
Ms. Wolley motioned to adjourn the meeting. Second by Ms. Chicquelo. The meeting
adjourned at 7:07 p.m.
