Approval of the August Meeting Minutes
The Committee reviewed the meeting minutes from the August 16, 2021 meeting.
Mr. Toledo motioned to approve the minutes as presented. Second by Ms. Aikara. All
members in favor; no opposed. Motion carries, 6-0-0.
Follow up on Essay Contest for Summer Camp Scholarships
The Committee finalized the following questions to provide students for the essay contest:
1. What camp did you attend? Was the camp virtual or in-person?
2. What did you learn at summer camp this year?
3. What was the best part of your summer camp experience?
4. Would you consider going to this camp again?
5. What would you tell a friend who was considering attending this camp next year?
6. Is there anything else you want to share about this camp?
Ms. Barber will send the questions out and request for essays to be submitted before the EAC’s
October meeting date.

Discuss PTA Membership Options
The Committee discussed creating a budget to cover the cost of PTA memberships for parents.
The Committee will find out the cost of a PTA membership among neighborhood schools and
will then determine a budget amount.
Update on August 7th book distribution
Mr. Toledo estimated that half of the books are still remaining from the August 7th College Park
Food Bank distribution. Less residents attended the Food Bank on August 7th, so a suggested
option was to distribute the remaining books at another City event or distribute the books
through the schools. Other suggested events for a book distribution were Hollywood’s Farmer’s
Market, Good Neighbor Day, Neighborhood Watch in College Park Woods, the Halloween event
in Calvert Hills and a food collection at Ikea.
Update on Achievement Recognition Strategies
Ms. Barber shared with the Committee the yard sign design that Ms. Quinones created. The
Committee liked the design and 3 yard signs/City District will be ordered. The Committee will
determine if the yard signs will be given to students monthly or quarterly and how the signs will
be distributed to the student. A suggested option is to have the parents pick up the yard signs
from the City main office.
Literacy Lab
Councilmember Mackie provided an update to the Committee on the Literacy Lab pilot program
at Hollywood Elementary. Tutors have completed training and began at the school last Friday.

College Park Day
