MINUTES Special Session of the College Park City Council Tuesday, September 5, 2017 Council Chambers 8:23 p.m. PRESENT: Mayor Wojahn; Councilmembers Kabir, Nagle, Brennan, Dennis, Stullich, Day, Kujawa, and Cook. ABSENT: None. ALSO PRESENT: Scott Somers, City Manager; Janeen Miller, City Clerk; Suellen Ferguson, City Attorney; Bill Gardiner, Assistant City Manager; Terry Schum, Director of Planning; Chris Keosian, Student Liaison; Julianne Heberlein, Deputy Student Liaison. During a regularly scheduled Worksession of the College Park City Council, a motion was made by Councilmember Day and seconded by Councilmember Brennan to enter into a Special Session to take action on a request from Dr. Stephen Thomas on behalf of the University of Maryland Center for Health Equity and Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington to consider supporting the Mid-Maryland Mission of Mercy and Health Equity Festival. The motion carried 8-0-0 and the Council entered into the Special Session at 8:23 p.m. ACTION ITEM 17-G-115 Approval of a $5,000 donation for the Mission of Mercy Free Dental Clinic at UMD Xfinity Center on September 8 and 10, 2017 A motion was made by Councilmember Day and seconded by Councilmember Brennan to make a donation of $5,000 to the free dental event taking place this weekend at the Xfinity Center on the University of Maryland campus. Dr. Thomas said 500 vouchers were distributed to College Park residents to get priority in the line. At a cost of $160,000, they are delivering $1.2M of dental care for free, offering everything from cleaning to oral surgery. There were no comments from the audience or from the Council. The motion passed 8 - 0 – 0. ADJOURN: A motion was made by Councilmember Dennis and seconded by Councilmember Brennan to adjourn the Special Session, and with a vote of 8 – 0 – 0 Mayor Wojahn adjourned the Special Session at 8:27 p.m. ____________________________________________ Janeen S.
