MINUTES Special Session of the College Park City Council Tuesday, September 19, 2017 Council Chambers 9:53 p.m. PRESENT: Mayor Wojahn; Councilmembers Kabir, Nagle, Brennan, Dennis, Stullich, Day, Kujawa, and Cook. ABSENT: None. ALSO PRESENT: Scott Somers, City Manager; Janeen Miller, City Clerk; Suellen Ferguson, City Attorney; Bill Gardiner, Assistant City Manager; Terry Schum, Director of Planning; Bob Ryan, Director of Public Services; Chris Keosian, Student Liaison; Julianne Heberlein, Deputy Student Liaison. During a regularly scheduled Worksession of the College Park City Council, a motion was made by Councilmember Stullich and seconded by Councilmember Day to enter into a Special Session to take action on a request from the City’s Animal Welfare Committee to conduct fundraising activities beginning next week. The possibility of the Special Session was listed on the Worksession agenda. The motion carried 8-0-0 and the Council entered into the Special Session at 9:53 p.m. ACTION ITEM 17-G-112 Approval of fundraising request by the City’s Animal Welfare Committee Mr. Ryan referred to the supplemental information in the red folder. Council policy requires Council approval of fundraising activities by City-appointed Boards and Committees. The AWC request is for several fundraising activities to cover whatever extraordinary veterinary services might be required to help care for animals that come into our care. Mr. Ryan said Staff supports the request. AWC Chair Nick Brennan said their fundraising is ongoing and they don’t anticipate coming back to Council each time unless there is a change in the type of effort they have planned. A motion was made by Councilmember Stullich and seconded by Councilmember Brennan to approve the Animal Welfare Committee’s request for fundraising as proposed. Councilmember Stullich is pleased with the work the Animal Welfare Committee is doing. There were no comments from the audience. The motion passed 7-0-1 (Nagle abstained). ADJOURN: A motion was made by Councilmember Stullich and seconded by Councilmember Brennan to adjourn the Special Session, and with a vote of 8 – 0 – 0 Mayor Wojahn adjourned the Special Session at 9:55 p.m. ____________________________________________ Janeen S.
