MINUTES Special Session of the College Park City Council Tuesday, March 6, 2018 Council Chambers 10:29 p.m. PRESENT: Mayor Wojahn; Councilmembers Kabir, Kennedy, Brennan, Dennis, Day, Rigg, Kujawa and Mitchell. ABSENT: None. ALSO PRESENT: Scott Somers, City Manager; Bill Gardiner, Assistant City Manager; Janeen Miller, City Clerk; Suellen Ferguson, City Attorney; Bob Ryan, Director of Public Services; Terry Schum, Director of Planning. During a regularly scheduled Worksession of the College Park City Council, a motion was made by Councilmember Rigg and seconded by Councilmember Brennan to enter into a Special Session to consider a time-sensitive matter of state legislation. The possibility of the Special Session was advertised on the Worksession agenda. The motion carried 8 – 0 – 0 and the Council entered into Special Session at 10:29 p.m. ACTION ITEM 18-G-44 Approval of a letter of support for SB 331 – Creation of a State Debt – Prince George’s County - College Park Early Learning Center Mayor Wojahn said this is a proposed bond bill that the City-University Partnership is pursuing requesting funding for an early learning center through The Children’s Guild which they hope to locate in north College Park. We have been asked to send a letter in support of the bond bill. This is proposed for Special Session because the hearing is March 10. A motion was made by Councilmember Mitchell and seconded by Councilmember Rigg to send a letter in support of SB 331, a bond bill for the College Park Early Learning Center. There was no comment from the audience. Councilmember Day is in support of this; it will help fill the need for a location up north that was uncovered during the discussions about a child care center at the Calvert Road School site. The motion carried 8-0-0. ADJOURN: A motion was made by Councilmember Day and seconded by Councilmember Brennan to exit the Special Session and with a vote of 8 – 0 – 0, Mayor Wojahn adjourned the Special Session at 10:36 p.m. ____________________________________________ Janeen S.
