Call to Order Ms. Gross called the meeting to order at 7:07 p.m. 1 II. Approval of the Agenda The Commission reviewed the agenda for the meeting. III. Review of October Meeting Minutes The Commission reviewed the meeting minutes of the October 27, 2022, meeting. Ms. Robinson motioned to approve the minutes as presented. Second by Mr. Rowe. All members in favor; no opposed. Motion carries, 12-0-0. IV. Committee Reports a. Truth and Reconciliation – Ms. Schreiber reported that the committee discussed adding on more principles and the RFP. The committee discussed making the learning visits a deeper engagement by inviting committee members to engage in conversation with Lakelanders before proceeding through the Lakeland community. b. Community Engagement – Ms. Williams reported the committee meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month. The November meetings included discussions on the principles and beginning to start on the work plan. The committee also discussed engaging Lakelanders that have been directly impacted by urban renewal. A community engagement opportunity will be confirmed by Mr. Thurston. c. Transformative Justice – Ms. Alcaniz reported the committee met on November 14th and discussed a proposal to meet with Lakelanders during the Christmas tree lighting on December 4th. Also discussed some questions on the historic designation of Lakeland and how to obtain data from the planning class being held at University of Maryland. V. Historic Designation Assessment Ms. Barragan presented to the Commission the research she conducted on Lakeland and provided a historic designation assessment timeline on the Lakeland community. Lakeland was not provided a choice to be a Historic District and the Commission held further discussions on this topic. Ms. Barragan also presented on the 2008 Lakeland Historic Assessment which provides data on the few existing buildings from the early twentieth century that are not adequate to convey Lakeland’s historic significance as an African- American community. 2  Ms. Barragan also presented on the Prince George’s County Historic Preservation Program and the process in which a community can request to be designated as a Historic Preservation. VI. Event Report a. Ms. Gross reported there was a Lakeland Community meeting held on November 16th and a few Commissioners were able to join the meeting. There is a willingness for the Commission to attend the Lakeland community meetings and assist in the process of working with developers and developments within Lakeland. b. Lakeland Christmas Tree Lighting will be on December 4, 2022, 6:00-8:00 p.m. VII. Next Meeting The Commission will take a recess in December. The next meeting is scheduled on January 26, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. VIII. Adjournment Ms. Gross adjourned the meeting at 8:33 p.m. 3
