Call to Order Ms. Gross called the meeting to order at 6:08 p.m. II. Announcements a. The RFP researcher is posted on the City’s website until May 24, 2024, and currently no proposals received. b. New Vice Chair – Ms. Thurston has resigned from the Commission and a new vice chair needs to be appointed. It was suggested that the vice chair should be from Lakeland. Nominations and decisions will be tabled until the June meeting. c. Status of Scholarship Program – Ms. Carter will add the status of the scholarships on the next available Council’s consent agenda. 1  d. Status of Renaming – Letters were sent by Council but no response has been received. Ms. Carter and Ms. Gross will follow up on the status. e. Historic preservation applications were approved and the plaques will be presented on May 23, 2024. f. Civic Association – Circulated a survey; community impact agreement discussion; need more clarity in communications on activities that are ongoing in parallel between the RJC and the Civic Association; Civic Association needs a visual presence. g. Lakeland Day – August 24, 2024 (date to be confirmed) III. Events Recap Events held were thought provoking and challenging to help remind the RJC to be creative and informative while continuing to do the work. IV. Review and Approval of April Meeting Minutes The Commission reviewed the meeting minutes of the April 19, 2024, meeting and no edits were made. Mr. Thurston motioned to approve the minutes. Second by Mr. Caitlin. All members in favor; no opposed. Motion carries 9-0-0. V. Requests to the Commission a. Add footage and pictures from all events to Google Drive. b. All committees to include an update on their work for the newsletter. c. Review the Communication Plan drafted by Community Engagement. d. Attend tonight’s Council meeting if available. e. Trolley Trail Day – June 8, 2024 – Members to check availability to help man the RJC table. VI. Commission Ideas Ms. Brown provided an idea to invite other civic associations to meetings and events to gain more community members to hear the story of Lakeland and present the role and activities being conducted by the RJC. VII. Adjournment Ms. Brown motioned to adjourn the meeting. Second by Mr. Sellers. All members in favor; no opposed. Motion carries, 9-0-0. The meeting adjourned at 6:58 p.m. 2
