Ms. Alexander called the meeting to order at 7:03 pm.
1. Approval of January Meeting Minutes: The minutes of the January 16, 2019 meeting
were reviewed.
Motion: Accept January meeting minutes as written.
Moved: Dr. Lea-Cox Second: Ms. O’Brien

2. Public Works Department Report: Ms. Alexander shared the following highlights:
• The landscape crew are currently working in various locations performing
spring cleanup.
• Installed six new combo receptacles and a bench on the bike trail in Calvert
Hills.
• The Hollywood dog park project is currently in progress.
• The Crystal Springs playground project started on March 18th.
• The field lights at Duvall were repaired.
• Contract mowing in the right of way and on the athletic fields to begin in
April.
• There is currently one vacancy on the landscape crew.
• The landscape crew has been working on Calvert Row median. James Adams
Park and Duvall Field have been completed. The crew has started on the bike
trail in Calvert Hills.
• The brush pile at DPW has been processed into wood mulch.
• Compost is on sale with a 25% discount when picked up until the end of
April.
• The food scrap drop-off at Davis Hall will begin in April.
• April is cleanup month for Public Works. Drop-offs of trash and bulky
material will be available.
• The shredding truck will be at Davis Hall on April 20th.

• Good Neighbor Day is on Saturday, April 13th. There will be playground
mulching projects as well as cleanup and planting projects.
• The tree canopy assessment report and presentation is scheduled for the April
16th City Council Worksession.
3. CBE Report: Ms. McNamara shared the following highlights:
• On April 10th, there will be a solar panel co-op education session at Davis
Hall.
• On May 11th, there will be a Green Housekeeping Workshop at City Hall from
10:00 a.m. to Noon.
4. Old Business
a. Arbor Day
Ms. Alexander did not receive a reply from Holy Redeemer and contacted St. Andrews
Church on College Avenue as a potential site location. Arbor Day will be held on Friday
April 26th at 9:30am.
b. Trees removed in the City
Mr. Meyer expressed concern for the removal of trees at the future Hillel site on Yale
Avenue as well as trees removed at 49th and Hollywood Avenue. Ms. Alexander
suggested Mr. Meyer meet her at the location to review the locations of where the trees
were removed.
c. Tree Removal Policy
Ms. Alexander pulled city codes from various cities and has asked the Board to
review other city municipal tree removal policies. Board members were
assigned the following cities to review:
Ms. O’Brien: Greenbelt, University Park, and Mount Rainer
Mr. Meyer: Cheverly, Bowie, and Berwyn Heights
Ms. McNamara: Laurel, Riverdale Park, and New Carrolton
5. Other Business
a. Hazelnut trees
Mr. Meyer suggested hazelnut trees be planted within the City. Ms. Alexander
commented those type of trees are usually not selected as street trees, but can possibly be
planted on the bike trail.
6. Next Meeting Date
The next meeting will be held on April 17, 2019.
7. Adjournment
Dr. Lea-Cox motioned to adjourn the meeting. Second by Ms. McNamara. The meeting
adjourned at 8:52pm.
