Approval of May Meeting Minutes: The minutes of the May 15, 2019 meeting were reviewed and corrections were made. Motion: Adopt May meeting minutes as amended. Moved: Mr. Reitzel Second: Ms. O’Brien Aye: Unanimous Nay: 0 Abstain: 0 2. Public Works Department Report: Ms. Alexander shared the following highlights: • A new laborer started on May 20th. • Two part-time summer seasonal students have also started on the landscape crew. • All the summer annuals have been installed. • Excel Tree Experts was awarded contract tree work and most of the work has been completed. 21 trees were removed and 28 trees were pruned. • 100 cubic yards of ADA playground mulch was delivered and has been installed in playgrounds in North College Park. • The landscape crew is currently working on pruning throughout the City to help with intersection visibility. • Ms. Alexander met with a Pepco planner on May 12th to review upcoming work on a subtransmission line. 3. CBE Report: Ms. McNamara shared the following highlights: 1 • Currently working on completing the Sustainable Maryland report, which is due on June 30th. • Reviewing various cities to create a SMART pay system for the City trash collection. • Authorized the purchase of mesh bags to give out at the City’s farmers markets. • Plan to host a wildflower workshop in the summer. • Reviewed and approved a letter to Mayor and Council to not use Astroturf at Duvall field. 4. Old Business a. Review of Tree Ordinances The TLB reviewed the populated spreadsheet with city code tree removal requirements from Hyattsville, Frederick, Takoma Park, Brentwood, Laurel, Gaithersburg, Rockville, Mt. Rainer, Cheverly, Vancouver, and University Park. The Board liked the following requirements: ❖ 24-30 inch Circumference requirement for tree removal ❖ Permit application required without a fee for dead/declining/diseased trees ❖ Replanting for all permitted removals with allowable TCEP reimbursement to be used ❖ Tree removal company must be insured Ms. Alexander will create a Google Doc with all the key points for members to review. 5. New Business a. Elect a Chair Tabled for the next meeting. 6. Next Meeting Date The next meeting will be held on July 17, 2019 at Davis Hall. 7. Adjournment Mr. Meyer made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Second by Ms. O’Brien. The meeting adjourned at 9:09 pm. 2
