The meeting was called to order at 7:01 p.m.
1. Review and approval of March 18, 2015 Minutes
Mr. Davis moved to approve the minutes as submitted. Mr. Ruth seconded the motion.
All were in favor. The motion passed 6-0-0
2. Discussion of May Memorial Day Ceremony
Speaker – Mary
Army cadet, Tyquita Jackson, is currently a student at the University of Maryland,
College Park. She’ll send a bio and draft of her speech bio in the next few weeks.
Former Mayor, Ana Owens, will speak about Amelia Murdoch if she is well. She is
currently performing research and has pictures of Amelia. If she doesn’t have
enough photographs then Jim McFadden has a collage to supplement.
Ms. Davis will email photos of Mr. Hazard to Ms. Cook and will contact the Berwyn
Baptist Church. She will send a special invitation to the Church to attend the
ceremony. The Committee will post a photo of Mr. Hazard with his obituary
underneath.
Music – Doris
Ms. Davis’ neighbor has to work so he will be unable to participate. Melissa Sites
will try to get the College Park Chorale group to perform and will send the selection
of music before the program is written. Patrick Cavanagh will be able to play Taps.
He will be graduating this year from college and the Committee will recognize his
help at the ceremonies and accomplishments in school.
Luncheon – Tom
Mr. Davis will speak with Gary at the Legion and will inform Ms. Cook about the
menu.
If the menu needs to be adjusted from the BBQ, etc. the Committee will accept the
necessary changes.
Photography – Arthur
Mr. Eaton will speak with the Gazette about posting a picture in the newspaper. Ms.
Colonomos is available to be the sign language interpreter.
Lisa Ealley provided contact information for the Holy Redeemer Girl Scouts who
might be able to help with the display of the veterans. Public Works will provide an
easel and paper for guests to write memories of their families. The paper will then
be displayed at the Legion. Public Works will provide tables and table cloths.
Videography – Seth
The posters have been created and are on 8x11 paper. Ms. Davis will need ten
posters to be distributed by Angie Burns at Attick Towers and Spellman House. Ms.
Zito will post the posters on the trolley path in Calvert Hills, Berwyn and Duvall Field
and Mom’s Market. Mr. Stumpff will like 3 for Public Works.
There is an advertisement for the College Park TV Channel and it’s on the website.
Mr. Davis will speak with City staff about putting the video on the cable channel.
Signs - Public Works – Bob/Mary
Mr. Stumpff will speak with the Public Works crew that if they pull a sign out of the
ground for mowing they should replace them.
The dates will be changed and they will be put in the ground after May 16th.
Press – Mary/Seth
Ms. Cook will write a press release and send it to Mr. Gomoljak.
Monument – Bob
Public Works will power wash the monument and then have the flag poles cleaned
which is done every other year. The recent SHA roadwork cracked the sidewalk and
the Hunt Valley Construction will come back and fix the crack after Memorial Day.
Ms. Cook spoke with Terry Schum about purchasing the Cass property. She will
email Ms. Schum again and also CC some council members.

Flowers -- Rita
Brenda Alexander has ordered the flowers and they will arrive on the 11th. The Boy
Scouts are planning to plant on the 9th. The Scouts will just dig up the old bulbs and
prep the soil if the new bulbs haven’t arrived. Mr. Stumpff will speak with Ms.
Alexander to see if they could move the date before the 9th.
Program- Ms. Davis
Mr. Davis will be the emcee.
Benediction- Mr. Ruth will read his poem before he says the Benediction.
Laying of wreaths- VFW post 5627 and men’s auxiliary should be credited for their
work.
Sound system- Mr. Stumpff will take care of the sound. The music of each branch of
the military will be played.
Invocation- Ms. Cook will contact Ivy Christoffers. If Ms. Christoffers can’t do it then
Mr. Stumpff will ask the campus ministry at the University.
Senior Programs- Doris
Ms Davis worked with Angie Burns. She will try to coordinate the 2 buses and the
bus drivers who have Memorial Day off. Ms. Burns believes there are residents at
both Attick Towers and Spellman House who would like to attend the ceremony.
She will ask them to bring their pictures with a label of information.
Mr. Stumpff will make sure there is a tent for the elderly.
Water- Tom
Mr. Davis will purchase 4 cases of the little water bottles from Costco. Whatever
isn’t used will be then used for Veteran’s Day. Mr. Stumpff will supply the ice and
make sure the bottles are chilled.
Jim Robertson- Doris
Mr. Robertson is retiring from the photography business.
3. New Business
Recruitment of members
Ms. Cook asked that the Committee start looking for new members.
Thank you letters
Ms. Cook will write thank you letters to Mr. Leonard Smith and Mr. Jerry Anzulovic
for their time on the committee.
Disposal of Flags-
Mr. Stumpff will have the trash cans present to dispose of the flags.

Mr. Davis motioned to adjourn the meeting. Mr. Ruth seconded the motion.
