COLUMBIA CITY VETERANS PARK, 62601 COLUMBIA RIVER HIGHWAY HARVARD PARK, 3025 SIXTH STREET COLUMBIA CITY, OR 97018 Present: Sally Ann Marson, Chair Nell Harrison, Committee Member Jack Hruska, Committee Member Stan Hopkins, Committee Member Leahnette Rivers, City Administrator/Recorder Veterans Park: The Committee reviewed and discussed the following items:
Informational sign for main monument: Members selected 1" silver lettering on a black background for the sign. Leahnette will get a revised quote, review a final proof, and place the order.
Revised quote for Tribute to Family Members monument: Leahnette said reducing the size of the plaque to 30" wide by 18" tall resulted in a new quote of $1,890.00. She said if we pick it up at will call, we can avoid all shipping costs. Members reviewed the mock up and decided to change the lettering for the last two paragraphs to upper and lower case letters. Leahnette will review a final proof and place the order. A TRIBUTE TO ALL FAMILY MEMBERS OF AMERICAN SERVICE PERSONNEL, PAST AND PRESENT The family members of veterans bravely endure separation, apprehension, loneliness, hardships, and sacrifices while their loved ones serve our country. God bless the family members for their unwavering support for they, too, serve our country by supporting their service member. 1  POW/MIA final proof and placement: Members approved the final proof containing the reduced wording as decided during the last meeting. It was the consensus that the monument be placed between the two most northerly park benches. Leahnette will place the order.
US flag light fixture: Members suggested the plants be removed from around the light fixture, rather than relocated. The meeting relocated to Harvard Park. Harvard Park: Members considered the placement of shade sails in the park. The placement would occur in the area to the northeast of the see-saw. Members envisioned approximately five posts approximately 15' in height placed in the area, both with and without the sails attached. Due to the arbor vitae hedge along the east side of Sixth Street, members determined that the posts, sails and/or flags or banners would not be detrimental to views, and noted that most homes look over the open field as opposed to the playground area. It was the consensus that we move forward with purchasing sails. Leahnette will conduct more specific research and make some recommended selections for future review. Members noted that the posts and sails should not be installed until next summer so we can make some better decisions about placement. Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 5:50 p.m. 2
