January 09, 2024 - 6:00 P.M.
City Hall Council Chambers – 1840 Second Street
Present:
Katrina Claridge, Committee Chair
Jeff Reinan, Council Member
Mark Gordon, Committee Member
Nell Harrison, Committee Member
Jack Hruska, Committee Member
Karen Servey, Committee Member
Kim Karber, Interim City Administrator
Jim Wills, Park Volunteer, Citizen
Sally Ann Marson, Citizen
Committee Chair, City Councilor Katrina Claridge, called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m.
Marson Gardens: The Purple Robe Locust tree is in bad shape. Nell will try and get ahold of
Leo, who has done wonders with this tree in the past, to see if he can look at the tree and give
us an assessment of the tree. If we can’t get a hold of Leo, then we will have Micah reach out to
an arborist to have them look at it. It may be time to find a more native tree to plant in its place.
Veteran’s Park: The Gold Star marker has been ordered and should be delivered in time for
placement before Memorial Day celebration. Possibly place it on top of the hill where the
petunias are usually planted and opposite the Blue Star marker. Nell will let us know once it
arrives and suggested we try and plan a time we can all go look at the spot for placement. Mark
brought up the lower area by Veteran’s Park and is looking at turning it into a park. After further
discussion it was decided it would be a great place to put picnic tables and/or benches. Mark
will do a rough drawing of the area with placement of tables and benches. Sally Ann will try and
find the name of someone who is involved with the boy scouts and see if they would be
interested in making a table or bench as one of their projects. Mark also suggested taking a
video of the River’s Walk Trail and posting it to our website or facebook page to let people see
the trail. Nell said the Veteran’s Park sign has disappeared behind the roses and wants to look
for a new place for the sign and to look at getting a new sign. We will need to find the property
lines so when the sign is moved it’s on our property.

Harvard Park: Inquiry about the shade sail– will it be put up this year? The committee would
like a report from Micah at the next meeting on the condition of the play equipment and what
needs to be replaced.
Jim Bundy Memorial Park: New gravel has been placed on the trails through the park.
Ruth Rose Richardson and Pixie Park: The D.A.R. will be taking their proposal of donating
Pixie Park to the City at their state meeting in May.
River’s Walk: The committee wants to look at placing some more benches along the trail.
There is a volunteer group ‘Trailkeepers of Oregon’ that the City could see about possibly
teaming up with them to maintain the trail.
Other Business: Parks Master Plan – look over at next meeting.
The next meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at 6:00 p.m.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:06 p.m.
