The City of Columbia City In Columbia County on the Columbia River PARKS COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES JUNE 11, 2024 - 6:00 P.M. City Hall Council Chambers – 1840 Second Street Present: Katrina Claridge, Committee Chair Jeff Reinan, Council Member Nell Harrison, Committee Member Jim Wills, Committee Member Sally Ann Marson, Committee Member Kim Karber, City Administrator Micah Rogers, Public Works Superintendent Katrina called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Pixie Park/Ruth Rose Richardson: Kim updated the committee that during D.A.R.’s May state meeting they did vote to donate Pixie Park to Columbia City. They are now moving forward with the next steps to make that happen. Ruth Rose Richardson will remain under D.A.R. ownership, so they will continue to take care of the maintenance of that park. Veteran’s Park: • Memorial Day Celebration – The park looked great, and the event went well! The City will look at possibly adding some additional speakers for better sound. Parks Master Plan: Kim informed the committee that the grant application for the Parks Master Plan has been submitted. Other Business: • A suggestion for getting donations for benches to place along Rivers Walk Trail is to have separate groups (class reunions, families, clubs/organizations, etc.) fundraise to buy benches and then they could be placed along the trail with a plaque stating who donated it on the bench. • Work is being wrapped up in the roses at Marson’s Garden and Micah is still trying to locate a pink Dogwood to plant where the Purple Robe Locust tree was. • The metal posts for the shade sail are being painted with a more durable paint and then it will be placed in Harvard Park by the end of the month. The next meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. The meeting was adjourned at 6:35 p.m. 1
