The City of Columbia City In Columbia County on the Columbia River PARKS COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES JANUARY 14, 2025 - 6:00 P.M. City Hall Council Chambers – 1840 Second Street Present: Katrina Claridge, Committee Chair Jim Wills, Committee Member Sally Ann Marson, Committee Member Nell Harrison, Committee Member Kim Karber, City Administrator Katrina called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. Bundy Park: Parks Committee members individually visited Bundy Park and discussed the following observations. • Protect the Redwood trees so they will be around for hundreds of years. • Have the large rock that is at the north end of town by the RR tracks moved to the park. • Possible suitable location for a more ‘permanent’ type of bathroom. • Nice shaded park with good trails. • Need to have the trees assessed? • Has picnic area. Carolyn King: Tim Lammers, the volunteer currently taking care of the park, is recommending that the Oregon Grape shrub be removed due to the very sharp thorns on the leaves. It can be a hazard to anyone who steps on them with bare feet or brushes up against them. The committee recommended it be replaced with something low and slow growing. Will have PW look into it. MOVED (CLARIDGE), AND SECONDED (MARSON), AND CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY TO APPROVE THE OREGON GRAPE SCRUB BE REMOVED. Volunteer Time: Kim reminded everyone that if you are working in the parks, then volunteer hours need to be turned into Laura at City Hall. She also asked that the committee members remind the volunteers they work with or people they know who work in the parks to turn in their volunteer time. Other Park updates or reports: • Kim reported that the deed has been received for Pixie Park, so it is now part of the City Park system. • Nell inquired about what was happening with the Dogwood Tree for Marson Gardens. Kim will ask Micah. Parks Committee Meeting January 14, 2025 • Sally Ann asked about the ‘picket fence’ underneath the Columbia City sign and whether it was rotting. Kim will ask Micah. Other Business: • Kim reported that we have a bench that was donated from the St. Helens Lions Club. It will be kept at City Hall until a decision is made on where it should be placed. • Nell stated that the Garden Club has been very generous in purchasing the petunias for Veteran’s Park every year along with all their time spent working in the park. She was wondering if some sort of simple sign acknowledging the Garden Club’s volunteer work could be placed at Veteran’s Park. Kim will look into it. The next meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, February 11th, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. The meeting was adjourned at 6:32 p.m. 2
