MINUTES FROM JOINT MEETING OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION AND CITY OF COLUMBIA HEIGHTS CITY COUNCIL Tuesday, March 7, 2023 6:00 PM School Board Members present: Ms. Granlund, Ms. Houle, Ms. Medearis, Ms. Mueller, Ms. Palmer, Ms. Pettway and Superintendent Stenvik Administration present: Bondo Nyembwe, Bryan Hennekens, Tara Thukral, Lindsey Bennett, Kristen Stuenkel, Sarah Godfrey City Council Members present: Mayor Marquez Simula, Councilmember Buesgens, James, Spriggs City Councilmembers absent: Jacobs City Staff present: Lenny Austin, Kelli Bourgeois, Aaron Chirpich, Sara Ion, Keith Windschitl, 1. CALL TO ORDER AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE 2. WELCOME AND INTRODUCTION, members introduced themselves and stated what was the passion that made them run for office. 3. CITY UPDATE, Community Development Director Chirpich presented an update on the following projects: 40 and Central, 266 apartments about 40% leased right now, new City Hall will open in June. Behind fire and police and 62-unit apartment building, Railworks brewing going in at 40th and Central. Rainbow site they will start taking down building this summer, several hundred apartments, mixed use applications. Developers looking at the Fairview building on 40th and Central. Medtronic is consolidating and closing the Columbia Heights site. Asia Chow Mein sold to a Mexican restaurant. Park and Recreation Director Windschitl presented an update on activities that are jointly done by the City and the District. City Manager Kelli Bourgeois presented information on library programming. 4. SCHOOL DISTRICT UPDATES, Exec. Dir. Nyembwe, Dir. Stuenkel, and Dir. Thukral presented information on activities and programing in the Columbia Heights Public Schools. Dir. Hennekens presented a financial forecast for the district. 5. Adjourn 7:18
