I. CALL TO ORDER
Brewer called the meeting to order at 12:01 p.m.
Members Present: Valerie Berta, Council Appointee; Tammy Brewer,
Commission on Cultural Affairs representative; Tootie Burns, Council Appointee;
Kay McCarthy, Council Appointee; Bill Williams, Commission on Cultural Affairs
representative
Members Absent: Katie Essing, The District representative
Staff Present: Sarah Dresser
Audience Members: Caroline Peterson, KOMU
II. INTRODUCTIONS
As the meeting was called to order, Brewer welcomed Committee members.
III. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
A motion to approve the agenda was made by Williams, seconded by Burns;
motion carried.
IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The minutes from the last Standing Committee on Public Art Sub-Committee
meeting were approved with a motion by Burns, seconded by Williams; motion
carried.
V. REVIEW FINAL DESIGN
Dresser reported that after the last meeting, she contacted the artist with the
recommendations made by the committee. The artist sent her updated design for
the traffic box in addition to a design for the smaller utility box. The committee
noted that the new designs are a departure in style from the original submission;
the colors are darker and each panel is no longer a distinct dog breed. The
group agreed they liked the original blocky and more cubist designs that
featured brighter colors. The committee also noted that the wrap of one featured
dog on the small box would be hard to interpret by a viewer.
The committee asked that the artist be contacted by Dresser and to pass along
the group’s recommendation to go back to the original design submission, to
keep each panel distinct and address the lighter background spaces on the first

two panels. If the artist resubmits a small utility box design, the group
recommended that the design should reflect the larger box with distinct panels,
blocky design, and bright colors.
VI. RECOMMENDATION TO COMMISSION ON CULTURAL AFFAIRS
The committee agreed that they cannot make a recommendation to the
Commission at this time, and that they will plan to meet again to review the
artist’s design resubmissions before moving forward with a recommendation.
VII. PUBLIC COMMENT
None
VIII. SCHEDULE OF PROJECT
Dresser reported that she would contact the artist and plan to meet with her in
person. The Standing Committee will plan to reconvene in mid-April.

The meeting was adjourned by consensus at 12:38 p.m.
