COLUMBUS AREA AQUATIC CENTER ADVISORY BOARD Thursday, May 28, 2015 – 6 pm Columbus Area Aquatic Center The Columbus Area Aquatic Center (CAAC) Board met for a regular meeting on Thursday, May 28, 2015 at 6:00pm at the CAAC. Present: Members: Alderperson Thom (for Mayor Crombie), Alderperson Adams, Lueders, Roberts, Rehfeldt, Rose and Powers. Also present: City Administrator Patrick Vander Sanden and Aquatic Center Manager Loren Glasbrenner. Meeting called to order at 6:00 pm by Vander Sanden (due to no elected Chair). Quorum determined. Notice of posted meeting was announced by Vander Sanden. Motion by Lueders, seconded by Roberts to approve the agenda. Motion carried. New Business: Elect Chair of the CAAC Advisory Board Vander Sanden explained that since this was the inaugural meeting of the CAAC Advisory Board, that there currently was no Chairperson to help with the agenda and run the meeting. Vander Sanden asked for nominations for Chair. Powers nominated Janet Roberts for Chair, with Lueders seconding the motion. Motion carried. Roberts then announced the next item, which was 2015 Swimming Season. Glasbrenner provided information on the changes to the swimming program for the 2015 season. He talked about the installation of the new vortex slide, the use of the liquid pool cover and some of the other new policies and procedures set forth. Vander Sanden then went over the new fee schedule. After a number of years of no changes, some of the programs and offerings were increased for 2015 to keep the rates “in the middle of the pack” when compared to neighboring aquatic facilities. Reports from Staff Vander Sanden distributed hard copies of the 2014-15 CAAC Operational Report and Plan to the group. He said this is what was presented to the City Council earlier in the year as a resource for information on the pool and will be used as a template for future reporting. Board members felt it was a good report and something that hadn’t been done in the past. Glasbrenner reported on preparations for the 2015 swimming season, there was a concerted effort to clean the pool. The pool and DPW staff uncovered a leak near the new vortex slide, which took a lot of time to locate but it was and it was repaired. The pool was also tightly sealed this spring so the hope is that the water use will be cut down from years past. The liquid pool cover should also help with that effort. The Board members asked some general questions about varying policies. Suggestions were made to bring lifeguards and pool staff to future meetings, and to look at more special events – like a movie night or a DJ night. Glasbrenner then took the group on tour of the vortex slide area. Motion by Roberts, second by Adams to adjourn at 7:20 pm. Respectfully submitted: City Administrator Patrick Vander Sanden, Secretary
