COLUMBUS AREA AQUATIC CENTER ADVISORY BOARD Meeting Minutes Wednesday, April 26, 2017 6:10 pm (Rescheduled from April 19, 2017) Senior Center 1. Call to Order – by Mayor Michael Thom at 6:10 pm a. Venue Changed to Columbus Senior Center 2. Determination of Quorum – yes and members present: Ross Rehfeldt, Marcie Bindl, Julie Berget and Mayor Thom. Also, present Recreation Supervisor Amy Jo Meyers and CAAC manager Kane Browskowski. a. Mayor Thom indicated resignations rec’d for Cailin Lueders and Janet Roberts after last meeting. 3. Notice of Posted Meeting – posted. 4. Approve Agenda - Motion by Bindl, second by Berget. Motion carried. 5. Approve minutes of March 15 meeting – Motion by Rehfeldt to table until next mtg., as not available. Motion carried. 6. Recommendation by Mayor for open Seats- Ali Simyad & Martha Rule 7. Elect President, Vice-Pres and Secretary – Motion by Rehfeldt to table until next mtg and second by Bindl. Motion carried. 8. Citizen Comments & Communications – None 9. Old Business: a. Discussion - recruitment of board members: Mayor Thom will contact appointments to invite to May meeting. In addition, Thom will work with city administrator Patrick Vander Sanden to set up open board position section on city website for future use. Meyers will make updates to board application as well. b. Rental of facility to outside groups for additional income and exposure to venue/community update - Browskowski reported Michael White still feels $50/hr too high and will pass as this time. Board discussion and still in agreement at $50/hr. Meyers will update rental agreement for pool and add specific requirements for group rentals so separate from this type of rental. Meyers will report with requirements. Pool brochure will just indicate to contact pool for special group pricing as not to delay brochure publishing. Meyers to add. c. 2017 Pool Projects Update – 1. Pelican slide and pad arrived. Rec’d $1500 trade for old slide. 2. Resurfacing started Monday 24. Total time needed is 3 weeks. Then slide to be installed. 3. Received news that issue with expansion cracks. Meyers waiting on quote to possibly tile (400 linear feet) vs. just caulking cracks. Caulking would have to be done every few years and lap lines would be more easily viewed if tiled vs. caulking. 4. Drain Issue & Leaks fixed. Cap had moved and looked like more of an issue than found once investigated more. 5. Inside lights inside pool will be removed. Haven’t worked in years, constant problems. 6. Front entrance area set up. Washer & Dryer are new additions to pool this year. 7. Grates will expire in 2019. Will just clean for now vs. replacing. 8. Cover for exhaust fan cover was needed – installed and ready. d. 2017 Season Open/Close Update – Target Date – Memorial Day Weekend, Open House/Ribbon Cutting Night: Thursday May 25 Night. Open Thursday-Monday of that weekend. Open again June 2 for private party. Open full time for Summer Saturday June 3 – Labor Day, weather depending e. Staffing Update – 19 lifeguards, 4 lifeguards/admissions, 13 admissions. 1. Lifeguards receive 3 shirts/piece. Admissions 2 shirts/piece. City pays for suits. New for 2017, allow lifeguards to pay portion of suits and they then can keep at end of season. Helps offset $$. Staff safety training scheduled for May 4 . f. 2017 Brochure – In works. Approx. 2 weeks. Meyers to deliver to schools, etc. g. Name the Pelican Slide – Community can submit entries while present at pool during Thursday - Monday of Memorial Day weekend. 1 entry per person. Advisory Board will decide on winners. Winner receives concession card, ice cream from concessions, pool toy, pool t-shirt and picture in paper. In addition, an official Proclamation will be done honoring child. 10. New Business: a. American Red Cross Secret Shopper – SECRET! Meyers reported that for the cost of $1100, a representative from Red Cross would send a representative to grade pool staff and procedures. Cost includes visit and report of findings. Pool and Staff receive a pass vs. fail on designated areas. Will include a mock drowning. Discussion concluded good way to see where we are. Motion by Rehfeldt, Berget 2nd to proceed. Motion Carried. Meyers will get on schedule, but date will remain unknown to all! Browskowski wants confirmation on whether it will be a passive drowning or what type. Meyers will report. 11. Next Meeting Date – Wednesday, April 24 6pm at Columbus Aquatic Center 12.
