Columbus Area Aquatic Center Advisory Board Meeting Minutes May 24, 2017 6:00 PM Location: CAAC 1. Call to Order by Mayor Thom 6 PM 2. Quorum Determined – yes, members present Ross Rehfeldt, Marci Bindl, Mayor Thom, Martha Rule, and Ali Simyad. Columbus Rec Supervisor Amy Jo Meyers and CAAC manager Kane Browskowski were also present 3. Notice of posted meeting – posted 4. Approve Agenda, Motion by Rehfeldt, second by Rule. Motion Carried. 5. Minutes approved for April 26 meeting, with Janet Roberts being added into the minutes 6. Met new CAAC members Ali Simyad and Martha Rule 7. Elected President Martha Rule, VP Marcie Bindl, Secretary Julie Berget 8. Citizen comments and Communications – None 9. Old Business A. Rental of facility discussion. Staff advised $50/hour during closed hours, discussion of group rate with pool open vs. private party rate. Possibility of angry members during cancelation, revenue opportunities and consistency of policy among groups who rent our facility. Board decided to advise staff to handle event rentals on a case by case basis with staff noting concerns and issues through the summer to be addressed after the season. B. Staff guided CAAC Board Members through tour of facility with updates and improvements shown. Also advised Board of new tables to be donated and delivered. C. Season opening May 27th set. Last week of school 5/28-6/2 with 4-7 PM hours. Normal business hours to be starting June 3rd. End of season to be Labor Day weekend. D. Weather closings. Board member Ali suggested staff put an outgoing message on the VM to let people know when closed due to weather. E. Brochure to be delivered 5/26, will go out to school kids in backpacks home. F. Staffing: fully staffed. Kane to certify and train lifeguards. Staff advised they went to seminar for municipal pool management and passed along the learning they had there. G. Name the Pelican Slide. Advisory extended the contest to name the slide to June 4th. H. Open House was discussed with the staff giving plans for cookies and tours open to the public. I. Board toured the filter/pump area and staff showed the issues with leaks and basic explanation of how that area works. J. Board member Ali asked about ways to limit water use within the showers/bathrooms. Staff explained they have looked into campground timers as a possible solution to the waste of water by kids using showers for fun/play. 10. Next Meeting Set 6/28 11.
