Columbus Historic Landmarks and Preservation Commission Monthly Meeting, Community Center Building, 5:00 PM Date: May 9, 2018 Attendees: Carolyn Fredericks Beth Altschwager Retta Kurth John Salzwedel RuthAnn Hermanson Jan Ulrich Guests: JT Cestkowski. Matt Schreiber, Director of Planning and Development 1. Call meeting to order 2. Properly posted meeting 3. Approve Agenda of May 9, 2018 Meeting Motion: Altschwager, Second: Kurth, Motion approved. 4. Approve Minutes of April 11, 2018 Meeting Motion: Altschwager, Second: Salzwedel, Motion approved. 5. Treasurer Report-Attached: Motion: Salzwedel, Second: Kurth, Motion approved. 6. CHLPC City budget summary: Update distributed. 7. Old Business: A. Auditorium lease: Ulrich will be in contact with Steve Hajewski to determine the status of the bank lockbox. Fredericks, Thom, & Johnson will finalize the agreement for acceptance by the June meeting. B. Pavilion Articles - Carolyn & Jan: Fredericks & Ulrich will work together to draft articles for the paper, the website, and facebook pages that will incorporate history with summer concert notices by June 1. Salzwedel will send a copy of the poster to Ulrich to present to Culver’s for possible advertising. C. Donor plaques & Catholic Campers plaque – Black has been contacted: Black will complete the addition of the names to the plaques. D. Nate Roberts – 4th District poles TBD: To be installed at a later date. E. Resthaven chairs ordered – condition of boxes & chairs. Rest of the order backordered – will be tracking for us: Four of the eight chairs were damaged in transit. Company will send replacements. Remaining order and tables from Black should be in place by the end of May. F. Pavilion mirror – off and at Prairie Glass ($200): Invoice to be sent to Judy Lenz as agreed. G. Olivet Church – sign permit denied because of size and size of location: Denied by Jake Henning (building inspector). Plans will be reworked. H. Summer Concert Series report – John & Carolyn: Salzwedel displayed a smaller version of the banner highlighting the Series and Sponsors. Altschwager made a motion for Salzwedel to order the banners. Kurth seconded it. Motion carried. Fredericks will contact the Masons for selling brats at the July 1 concert. 8. New Business: A. Special Summer Concert Series meeting: Scheduled for Tuesday, May 22 at 10 am at the Pavilion. B. JT Cestkowski – borrowing/scanning a few CHLPC photos for feature stories of Columbus history: Following discussion it was agreed to release documented photos, articles, etc. with restrictions. That is, the information remain city property, and the release be for a specified length of time. Ulrich offered to be in charge of releasing the information. . C. Clock tower bell chiming – JT Cestkowski: JT reported that with digital reprogramming the bell could be set to chime as desired. He would seek estimates and contributions for funding. The Commission approved of the project, and Salzwedel will consult with Clark & VanderSanden to serve as “gate-keeper” of the Clock. . D. Cable Commission letter: The Commission responded to the letter in the negative. E. New Council liaison – Jason Theilen: Noted. F. Open seat on CHLPC – Steve Hajewski update & potential appointee: Hajewski graciously declined due to other obligations. It was agreed to invite other Mayor Thom recommendations to a meeting to see if it would be a good fit for all involved. G. CHLPC garden – May/June: Salzwedel will work with DPW to prepare the ground for seeding & tree planting. H. Other: 1) Historical Society Webinar: Altschwager signed up for the “Ironworks” webinar. 2) James St/Spring St residence: Altschwager commented on “one of the oldest homes in Columbus”. 3) Hermanson reported on the Spring Conference of the WI Assoc. of Historic Preservation Commissions she attended April 27 in Platteville. 4) Schreiber reported that he would be looking into funding for fascade improvements for downtown businesses. 9. Council Liaison Report: Kenney absent. 10. Adjourn: Altschwager made a motion to adjourn, Hermanson seconded it. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 8:00 pm.
