Call to Order/Roll Call A regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Commerce City was called to order by Mayor Ford on August 22, 2018, at 7:36 PM. Present: 8 - Mayor Sean Ford , Mayor Pro Tem Rick A. Teter, Council Member Crystal Elliott, Council Member Steven J. Douglas, Council Member Benjamin Huseman, Council Member Jose Guardiola, Council Member Nicole Frank and Council Member Oscar Madera 3. Ward IV Vacancy Appointment Mayor Ford asked the city clerk to distribute paper ballots for the Ward IV vacancy. The vote resulted in a 4-4 vote split. A motion was made by Council Member Douglas to hold a special election for the Ward IV vacancy. The motion failed due to lack of a second. A motion was made by Council Member Teter, seconded by Council Member Huseman, to determine to fill the vacancy by a coin flip. VOTE: 7 - Aye, 1 - Nay (Douglas) It was determined that Mr. Davis would be heads and Mr. Dukes would be tails. The city clerk flipped the coin and it landed on head, awarding Mr. Davis the Ward IV position. A motion was made by Council Member Frank, seconded by Council Member Douglas, to confirm the appointment of Steven Davis to the Ward IV vacancy. VOTE: Unanimous, all present affirmed. The city clerk administerd the oath of office to Mr. Davis and Mr. Davis took his seat at the dais. Commerce City Page 1 City Council Meeting Minutes August 22, 2018 4.
