Call To Order/Roll Call Teri Smith, Stout Street - Future board member Present 5 - Carlotta Barnes, Carol Taylor-Boyd, Delilah Collins, Sheryl Carstens, and Valerie Medina Absent 1 - Joyce Siow-Yazzie 2. Presentation - CASA of Adams and Broomfield Counties Thanked us for the grant of $5,000. CASA is dedicated to providing advocates for neglect or abused children through recruitment, training, supervision and trained volunteers. 35 hours of training before volunteers are sworn as officers. YTD - Serving 66 Commerce City children. Recruited 63 advocates to date. 476 children enter system - 52 from Commerce City, currently serving 9. Reason they don't serve all children - not enough staff. Priority cases are taken first and are referred by judge, attorney etc, and are the most severe cases. Focusing on educational outcomes with an article in the past weekends paper. Provide services to youth that will emancipate from system. Serve about 35% of children annually. New vision to serve all children. CASA will have peer coordinators under their professional staff to allow professional staff to take on more cases. Current CASA standards are that the professional staff serve 40 children, this change will allow them to serve 100 children. Biggest event - Envision 2020 breakfast/lunch 10/16/2014 Handed out information 3. Presentation - Ralston House Thanked us for grant. They are a first year recipient and are a child advocacy center for Ist & 17th Judicial District Sites - Arvada, Lakewood and Northglenn. In process of renovating Northglenn site, will become largest center if plan is approved and funding is identified. 70% of their child clients are suffering from sexual abuse or sever physical abuse/severe torture. Don't accept referrals from outside - only accept referrals from police, district attorneys. Conduct forensic interviews - have 5 interviewers, trained each year. Help pay for victim advocates - 2 VA's are assigned to each case. Interview as young as 2 years of age up to age 18. Sometimes turn over to district attorney victim advocates. Victim advocates support and work with the kids but also work with the families to deal with the situations that their children may be going through. In 2014, in the 17th District they may interview 400+ clients. Provide medical exams in addition to the forensic interviews. They don't have a medical clinic in Adams County, with the renovation to Northglenn this would be added. Presentation - FISH of Commerce City Commerce City Page 1 Quality Community Foundation Meeting Minutes September 16, 2014 Faith in Service - In dedication to helping others - Service in Christ - Helping Hands for others in need - Started in England Loretta Garcia - been working with them since 1980. 1975 - 3 ladies homes and then the received their 501c3 in 1979. FISH feed 4,918 last year. Two volunteers get their food from Food Bank of the Rockies and purchase what else is needed. FISH moved location in April, 2014. Example of some items that are provided: corn, peas, green beans, juice, pork n beans, spaghetti sauce, tuna, chicken, mac and cheese, potatoes, rice written. Referrals are received from Our Savior Lutheran Church or research center. If they can provide the referral then FISH will offer support to them. Open 4 days a week and sometimes serve 17 families a day, sometimes less. FISH hasn't turned anyone away. Carol Taylor-Boyd requested Loretta provide written documentation on the program when she applies for the next grant. FISH is in need of volunteers. Volunteers are really hard to get. Wine Tasting Update Ticket Sales - 25 + board members Buffalo Run needs numbers by Sept 24 Minimum of 20 to hold event which is covered. Ticket sales finalized by Sept 23. Everyone send email with final numbers to Sheryl. Sheryl will contact Buffalo Run to report numbers. Teri Smith will try to sell tickets at the upcoming CCBPA board meeting on Thurs 9/18; at the Adams 14 event; the 9/25 Historical Society Event; and, at dedication of Conter Center. First Bank has purchased five tickets. Leigh Ann is creating a list for tracking - will record name, address, # of tickets, method of payment. Wells Fargo - credit card availability at the event??? Leigh Ann to put phone information with Sheryl's contact information while she is out for vacation so payments can be handled 6. Silent Auction Update The number of auction items collected and by whom - Sheryl - 2; Carlotta - 5; Valerie -2 7. Golf Tournament Update Andrew Amador and Rick Teter will work on the committee to plan to tournament. The first meeting has been held. Teri Smith from Stout Street attended the meeting and will serve on the committee. She shared lots of information. After wine tasting event, work on the tournament will get started. Reba Drotar is working on a large business to sponsor the tournament. Committee members: Carol, Carlotta, Reba, Rick, Andrew, Teri, and Leigh Ann. Idea - certain holes gave away crystals/rocks etc and included trivia questions. Way to educate participants about the QCF or city, person that has the most at the end wins a prize. Carol's goal is to have everything documented/outlined to make it easier for years to come. Discussed doing a save-the-date for the golf tournament to hand out at the wine tasting event. (All day event) Suggest a day Nov 18 (QCF Board Meeting will be held at El Jardin and participate in the fundraiser) By-laws indicate board members make an annual contribution - due by Dec 31, give to Leigh Ann or Sheryl. Amount is not outlined in the by-laws, please give what you can. Badges/Business cards have been ordered - $171.83 Carlotta will reach out to Joyce and see what her status is on the board.
