Advisory Board
a. General Updates
Director Couceyro began his report by introducing the administration and country
club divisions to the board. Director Couceyro then informs the board that they may
nominate future board officials from among themselves for the positions of
Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson. He reminded board members that if they had a
discussion item that they wanted to place on the next agenda, they should notify
Administrative Assistant Susan. Then we'll put it on the agenda and go through it.
Director Couceyro went on to announce that the 2023 Biennial Boards and
Committees Ethics Training will take place on September 29, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to
12:00 p.m., at the Public Safety Building, 2151 Salzedo Street CMR A&B Coral Gables,
FL 33134. All Board and Committee members must attend this meeting.
Director Couceyro then described the objective of the Coral Gables Golf and
Country Club Advisory Board. This board will seek policy or problem feedback from
the Country Club’s various memberships, programs, venue rentals, and member
events.
Country Club Division Director Mitch Zuriarrain proceeded to update board members
on the completion of maintenance week last week and informed members that
maintenance week will be held once a year to allow for thorough cleaning and
repairs.
Board member Ruben Rodiguez inquired about the country club's vision, asking what
some of the larger objectives are. Director Couceyro responded that the input we've
received from the community is what we're going to make the country club into,
having this space for families to have activities here at a much lower cost.
Board member George Navarro would want to know how the city advertises the
country club to the community. What platforms are we utilizing? Deputy Director
Carolina remarked that when the city took over the club, we couldn't use anything
that was previously established. We needed to take care of all marketing. We have a
website for the country club. Susan shared the playgables.com website with the
board members.
Country Club Fitness & Pool Manager Carlos Llompart then provided further fitness
information. He added that new equipment had been installed and that class sizes
had increased.
Director Couceyro followed by informing the board members that the number of
members they previously had was based on information gathered from previous
contracts. They had 17,000 members when they departed. This was not accurate. We
discovered that they had at least 5,800 paid members and that many of their
memberships were buy one, get one free. Director Couceyro then provided an
update on the club's permit and inspection difficulties, as well as the club's current
membership of 1,300 paying members. Our initial goal was to get 2,000 members. He

also discussed ideas for the café, tennis, and the Granada Golf shop in the future.
Board member Peter Izaguirre inquired about how members validated their country
club membership for discounts at Le Parc. Country Club Division Director Mitch
Zuriarrain stated that members can authenticate their membership at the country club
by presenting their key fobs to employees. Deputy Director Carolina then explained
the membership discounts and perks to the board members. Deputy Director
Carolina was reminded by Director Couceyro to offer more information on member
discounts on the country club's RecNews.
Board member Don Slesnick III suggested informing employees about membership
discounts to ensure that members as well as staff are properly informed.
b. Special Events
Country Club Division Director Mitch Zuriarrain quickly went over some of the
upcoming events, which include Roaring 20'a Glamour Bridal Expo – Saturday,
October 21st at 12p.m. and Rev up the holiday spirit with friends, family, and Santa!
c. Administrative Updates
Director Couceyro then updated the board members on the Budget Hearing and how
they had Annexation for High Pines and Ponce after the country club advisory board
meeting.
Board member Ruben Rodriguez inquired whether upcoming annexation meetings
may be shared with the board. The forthcoming annexation meetings, according to
Director Couceyro, are for homeowners in specific locations. However, the board will
be notified for any future meetings.

among themselves for the roles of Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson and
Board-as-a-whole member.
As for board-as-a-whole member they must submit a résumé or a paragraph
explaining why they want to serve on the board. Director Couceyro suggested that
potential nominees submit their resumes before the next meeting, after which we will
disseminate resumes to the whole board, who will then analyze and choose their
eighth member. According to Deputy Director Carolina, the City Clerk's office advised
applying online and sending applications through the portal, which we would then
distribute to the board. Deputy Director Carolina encouraged the board members to
share the Boards and Committees link with the possible nominees.
Board members Don Slesnick III and Ruben Rodriguez expressed an interest in
serving as board officials.
