APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES a. Approval of February Meeting Minutes A MOTION TO APPROVE FEBRUARY MEETING MINUTES WAS MADE BY PETER IZAGUIRRE AND SECOND BY ALBERT SANCHEZ. ALL IN FAVOR; PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. DIRECTORS REPORT City of Coral Gables Page 1 Coral Gables Golf and Country Club Meeting Minutes March 20, 2024 Advisory Board a. General Updates Country Club Division Director Mitch started his report by providing an overview of the programs that are currently being offered. These programs include kickboxing, boot camp, swim pro, and a monthly junior tennis clinic. One of the things that he emphasized was that the kids lounge is officially available from Monday through Thursday and weekends. Country Club Division Director Mitch continued with the spring break bash on March 24 at eleven in the morning. He proceeded with the poolside service with Le Parc, as well as the Memorial Day weekend and the Fourth of July. Country Club Division Director Mitch went on to discuss the pool hours, which are scheduled from March 1 through March 9 from 6:30 to 6:00 p.m. on Monday through Thursday. Swimming lanes will be open from 6:30 am until 11:00 am. Afterward, at 4:00 p.m. up until 6:00 p.m. extending a little bit to give members time before summertime traffic jams occur from people using the area more for leisure and hangout than for physical activity. Chair Don Slesnick lll asked Country Club Division Director Mitch about any follow-up discussions regarding our guest handling policy, specifically regarding getting guests to sign documents. We moved past asking them to sign waiver after waiver. Mitch said the waiver will likely allow people in, but we need to protect liability. This is still the guests' responsibility. We stopped keeping them at the front desk and barring guests. He believes not signing it was the primary difficulty. Guests can fill out and give off a pool form after entering. b. Special Events Glow in the Dark Egg Hunt at the Country Club Grand Ballroom is scheduled to occur on Sunday, March 31st, 2024, as announced by Country Club Division Director Mitch. Each participant is required to possess a ticket, which is sold on an individual basis. For more information, please contact us at events@coralgablescountryclub.com. Country Club Division Director Mitch addressed the club's participation at the Community Recreation Department's Coral Gables Farmers Market booth on Saturday, March 2, 2024. They will promote athletic memberships and venue activities. c. Administrative Updates The Coral Gables Farmers Market - Saturday, Mar 23 & 30 at 8 a.m., Gentle Egg Hunt - Saturday, Mar 23 at 11 a.m., Eggstreme Egg Hunt - Saturday, Mar 30 at 10 a.m. and Bike and BBQ - Sunday, April 21 at 9:30 a.m. Director Couceyro began the report by informing that we have a new city manager who started working today. Yesterday, during the meeting of the commission, he was City of Coral Gables Page 2 Coral Gables Golf and Country Club Meeting Minutes March 20, 2024 Advisory Board hired. Amos Ramos Jr. is the name of this individual. In addition to that, he served as a United States Marshal in the Southeast Office for a period of twenty-four years prior to his current position. Today, he had a strong start to the day. To his knowledge, we have not encountered him. Tomorrow, in the afternoon, we will be holding a staff meeting with him, which will include the full department head staff. Consequently, that is the time when we will meet him. NEW BUSINESS a. Is there any additional space in the club where classes can be taught? Director Couceyro asked if scheduling two classes at once was due to class size needed. Board member Sherry Celesia answered both. Occasionally, 22 members attend class, she claimed. Mondays are always full, but some must expand their comfort zone. That also hinders weightlifting inside the machine. From a scale viewpoint, Director Couceyro suggested looking at another to see if it's being used or needed. Board member Sherry Celesia discussed class cancellation protocol. She said canceling online is difficult until she calls the club. Board member George Navarro advised members to book on their own, but the club team must inform them that 30 members had registered for that class. So members can register if someone doesn't show up. b. Is there money in the budget for additional weights as we run out of these during a full class. People in the general area use the same weights. In response, Country Club Division Director Mitch stated that he will inquire about adding more weights at the following meeting. c. Are two dedicated tennis courts for club members - is there any way one could be converted to pickle ball courts? It could enhance our membership drives! pickle ball courts? It could enhance our membership drives! Country Club Division Director Mitch said coach club members always have two tennis courts. Simply call ahead and they'll make it available. We generally notify them. Members can notify staff and they will call to indicate members are coming over. We proposed a capital project to construct pickleball courts west of the house when we took over the club, Director Couceyro said. When that happens is unknown. Something major is coming. d. How do pool-only memberships function? A city official brought this to Director Couceyro's notice, he said. He stated to investigate the best way to go about it. How it will work worries him, particularly if people are genuinely going to the pool or the fitness center. What will be the cost. ALL IN FAVOR; PASSED UNANIMOUSLY. b. Athletic Club draft surveys Can you please send this out as soon as it's official, so we know it has been confirmed? Chair Don Slesnick III requested. Country Club Division Director Mitch replied that he will disclose after everything is finalized. DISCUSSION ITEMS Board member Albert Sanchez expressed irritation last week at the staff's seeming handcuffed appearance and lack of etiquette. Last week, a man voiced his displeasure when kids were using machines while adults were using two or three. He heard music being played in the exercise area by a female. When the staff told her to turn down the music, she disregarded them. A court of conduct is therefore necessary. He often picks up towels in the locker area. Why are people leaving three towels on the ground? To bring back machine time and courtesy, we must perform a sign. A few devices are misused. He thinks employees are hesitant to act because they anticipate being disregarded. Make signage for your guests that list ten guidelines.
