The Historic Preservation Board will be holding its Regular Meeting on Wednesday,
August 18, 2021 commencing at 4:00 pm EST.
Pursuant to Resolution No. 2021-118, the City of Coral Gables has returned to
traditional in-person meetings.
Accordingly, any individual wishing to provide sworn testimony shall be present
physically in the Commission Chambers. However, the Historic Preservation Board
has established the ability for the public to provide comments (non-sworn and
without evidentiary value) virtually.
Accordingly, only individuals who wish to provide public comment in this format, may
appear and provide those comments via Zoom.
Members of the public may join the meeting via Zoom at

In addition, a dedicated phone line will be available so that any individual who does
not wish (or is unable) to use Zoom may listen to and participate in the meeting by

To speak to the Historic Preservation Board on an Agenda Item, please “Raise your
Hand” or send a message to one of the meeting hosts using the Zoom Platform.
If you joined the meeting via telephone, you can “Raise your hand” by pressing *9.
The public may also comment on an item on the agenda using the City’s
already-established e-comment function which may be found on the City’s website at:

or by sending an email to cityclerk@coralgables.com prior to the start of the meeting.
The meeting will also be broadcasted live for members of the public to view on the

VI. AD VALOREM TAX RELIEF
1. 21-2798 An application requesting ad valorem tax relief for the property at 1223 Lisbon Street, a
Local Historic Landmark, legally described as Lot 29, Block 59, Coral Gables Granada
Section, according to the plat thereof, as recorded in Plat Book 8, at Page 113 of the
Public Records of Miami-Dade County, Florida. The related Special Certificate of
Appropriateness, COA (SP) 2016-024, was granted design approval by the Historic
Preservation Board on January 19, 2017.
VII. LOCAL HISTORIC DESIGNATION
1. 21-2799 CASE FILE LHD 2021-005: Consideration of the local historic designation of the property
at 1234 Country Club Prado, legally described as Lots 17, 18, & 19, Block 77, Coral
Gables Granada Section, according to the Plat thereof, as recorded in Plat Book 8, at
Page 113 of the Public Records of Miami-Dade County, Florida.

VIII. SPECIAL CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS
1. 21-2800 CASE FILE COA (SP) 2015-018 REVISED: An application for the issuance of a Special
Certificate of Appropriateness for the property at 4730 Santa Maria Street, a contributing
resource within the “Santa Maria Street Historic District,” legally described as Lots 16
thru 23, Block 92, Coral Gables Country Club Section Five, according to the Plat thereof,
as recorded in Plat Book 23, Page 55, of the Public Records of Miami-Dade County,
Florida. The application requesting design approval for additions and alterations to the
residence was approved on January 8, 2016 with multiple conditions. On May 25, 2017,
the Historic Preservation Board reviewed the project again to address the fence, pavers,
and landscaping and also minor revisions to the permit drawings. A revision requesting
design approval for deviations from the approved Certificate of Appropriateness was
partially approved on October 18, 2018. This application requests design approval for a
revision to the approved Certificate of Appropriateness for the replacement of the front
door.

2. 21-2801 CASE FILE COA (SP) 2021-010: An application for the issuance of a Special Certificate
of Appropriateness for the property at 525 Alcazar Avenue, a contributing resource within
the “Alcazar Avenue Historic District,” legally described as the West ½ of Lot 18 and
Lot19, Block 13, Coral Gables Section “B,” according to the Plat thereof, as recorded in
Plat Book 5, at Page 111 of the Public Records of Miami-Dade County, Florida. The
application requests design approval for the installation of an S-tile roof.
3. 21-2802 CASE FILE COA (SP) 2021-011: An application for the issuance of a Special Certificate
of Appropriateness for the property at 4108 Palmarito Street, a Contributing Resource
with the “Italian Village Historic District,” legally described as Lot 7, Block 9, Coral
Gables Riviera Section Part One, according to the Plat thereof, as recorded in Plat Book
28, at Page 31 of the Public Records of Miami-Dade County, Florida. The application
requests design approval for the construction of a trellis, replacement of iron grillework,
new pedestrian and driveway gates, resurfacing of the front courtyard, installation of rear
steps and railings, and roof tile coping at the auxiliary structure. The application also
seeks after-the-fact approval for the installation of windows and doors and partial
resurfacing of the front courtyard. A variance has also been requested from Article 2,
Section 2-101 D (4) a and Article 5, Section 5-309 A (f) of the Coral Gables Zoning Code
for the minimum front setback.

4. 21-2803 CASE FILE COA (SP) 2021-012: An application for the issuance of a Special Certificate
of Appropriateness for the property at 818 Obispo Avenue, a contributing resource within
the “Obispo Avenue Historic District,” legally described as Lot 18 and Lots 5 & 6, Block
29, Coral Gables Section “B,” according to the Plat thereof, as recorded in Plat Book 5,
at Page 111 of the Public Records of Miami-Dade County, Florida. The application
requests design approval for the installation of an S-tile roof.

NOTE
Any person making impertinent or slanderous remarks or who become boisterous while
addressing the Board, shall be barred from further audience before the Board by the
Chair, unless permission to continue or again address the Board is granted by the
majority vote of the Board Members present. Clapping, applauding, heckling or verbal
outbursts or any remarks in support or opposition to a speaker shall be prohibited .
Signs or placards shall not be permitted in Commission Chambers.
Any person, who acts as a lobbyist pursuant to the City of Coral Gables Ordinance No .
2006-11, as amended, must register with the City Clerk prior to engaging in lobbying
activities before City Staff, Boards, Committees or City Commission. A copy of the
Ordinance is available in the Office of the City Clerk, City Hall. If a person decides to
appeal any decision made by a Board, Committee or City Commission with respect to
any matter considered at a meeting or hearing, that person will need to ensure that a
verbatim record of the proceedings is made, which record includes the testimony and
evidence upon which the appeal is to be based (F.S. 286.0105). Any meeting may be
opened and continued and, under certain circumstances, additional legal notice will not
be provided.
