City of Coralville Board of Adjustment Meeting February 27, 2017 Staff: Jim Kessler, Building and Zoning Official and Dee Marshek, Administrative Assistant Item 1: Meeting called to order 6:03 PM Item 2: Member present: Knudson, Nicola, and Nesbett Absent: Wells and Boucher Item 3: Approval of December 19, 2016 Minutes. Knudson: Motion to approve. Nesbett: 2nd Motion Motion carried: 3-0 Item 4: Public Hearing request by Pamela Thein will be for a Variance to Section 165.24 (6) (B) Rear Yard Setback. This request is located 865 Boston Way. Public Hearing Open: Public Hearing Close: Knudson: Motion to approve this Variance. Nesbett: Motion 2nd. Kessler displays the site plan and explains the reason for the request. It is for an addition to the rear of the house so the resident can make accommodations for elderly parents. Kessler explains because of position of the house on a corner lot; it therefor has two front yards and the side yard is in the rear of the house. The resident is asking to encroach into the rear yard by15 feet to build this addition. Kessler and members discuss the request, the surrounding properties, the remaining 25 feet between houses, and the fact that the City sees no issue with granting this request.
