Coralville Parks and Recreation Commission Meeting Minutes April 13, 2015 Call to Order Commission Chairperson Fred Fevold called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m. Present were Commission Members Eve Casserly, Marti Mount, Alex Taylor, and David Thayer, and Parks and Recreation Director Sherri Proud. Citizen Comments None Approval of Minutes Commission Member Taylor made the motion to approve the meeting minutes from March 16, 2015 with noted corrections. Commission Member Thayer seconded the motion; unanimous approval. Logo presentation and review for Clear Creek Greenbelt – 2nd revision Mara Cole, mara_cole@yahoo,.com - Graphic Designer, addressed the Commission regarding the revisions that were discussed from the last presentation of logos to present. Commissions discussed the flexibility and options created by the redesign of the logo preferences, lettering, and colors. The monochrome and color versions were also referenced. Discussions as to how the logos reflect the feelings, perceptions, and imagery attempting to be captured reflecting the season changes. Selected favorites were discussed as to feature preferences and how the logos would be utilized across the greenbelt areas. Multiple logos were discussed as to how the varied logos may reflect information about the greenbelt wildlife, plant material, etc. Proud will determine the information which will be projected on the signage. Signage will be developed during phase two which Commission will select the materials and the layout and projection of the image. Brown Deer Golf Club Patio Improvements Commission Members initially went to the east side of the golf course for Proud to share information about the projected patio improvements. Proud shared that the course has been showing a trend in fewer weddings held at Brown Deer from 2006 to the present. Comments received from the Marriott and the community have indicated that bridal couples are requesting one location for the wedding and reception. This kind of change will also allow Brown Deer to also sponsor site events. Proud shared structure concept plans, how the phases of the patio construction may occur as funds are available through the set aside funds that are mandated under the food and beverage contract. She also discussed how varied locations on site could be utilized using the deck, patio, and grand room. Commission Members discussed the onsite eye sores, challenges in the location, and alternate landscaping which could appease venue interests. Proud noted that she would like to utilize Neumann Munson for their engineering plans to coordinate with Brown Deer and propose that the City of Coralville oversee the project. Costs of the project, projected phases, and how revenues and expenditures would reflect the new amenity. Proud recommended that the phases of the project be bid again to reflect the project projections to be completed in sections. Commission Members discussed the amount of debt which the City of Coralville has currently accrued and how this project funding would contribute or be financed. Commission Member Mount made the motion to the Council for the City of Coralville to seek the bids reflective of the project phases for the patio enhancements in accordance to the funds available through the FF&E. Commission Member Taylor seconded the motion; unanimous approval. Director’s Report Parks and Recreation Director Proud reported that DIVOTS will open 11am-9 pm beginning April 20; Brown Deer Golf Course opened March 18. DIVOTS will feature a more casual menu with sandwich baskets for lunch and a full dinner menu with entrees. Replacement of major restaurant features and finishing improvements were completed during the last year utilizing the FF&E funds. At the end of the month, cracked cove base tile will be replaced. Leisure Line registrations for spring began on Saturday. Iowa River Landing management has been contracted to Watts Development Group which will release Proud from managing the maintenance and snow removal contracts. Proud reported that parks are open and softball diamond rentals are in full swing with minimal openings throughout the week. Proud shared that Administrative Assistant Rhonda Hay underwent surgery on Sunday due to a wood chipper accident which caused injury to her throat area resulting initially in a tracheotomy. Proud reported that the interview process for the Center for Performing Arts Director continues. Council Report Council Member Goodrich was not present at the meeting. Commission Member David Thayer No additional comments Adjournment Commission Member Taylor moved to adjourn at 8:28 p.m. Commission Member Mount seconded the motion; unanimous approval.
