Call to Order Commission Chairperson Fred Fevold called the meeting to order. Commission Members Marti Mount,
Alex Taylor (joined the tour late) but in attendance for the business meeting) and David Thayer, Council Member Jill
Dodds, and Parks and Recreation Director Sherri Proud.
Citizen Comments Parks and Recreation Director Proud reported that she has fielded positive comments about the
natural habitat around Morrison Creek Channel and an inquiry to make sure the natural vegetation is not mowed too
early in order to continue this habitat into the fall.
Approval of Minutes Commission Member Mount made the motion to approve the meeting minutes from July 16,
2018. Commission Member Taylor seconded the motion; unanimous approval.
No meeting was held in August 2018.
Council Member Comments Council Member Dodds highlighted City Administrator Kelly Hayworth’s Hall of
Fame with the League of Cities award. Mayor John Lundell just completed the role of President for the League of
Cities.
The Council held September 11 meeting at the Iowa Children’s Museum and received a tour viewing their recent
improvements. Dodds shared that a four acre area from the Brown Deer parking lot to First Avenue will be rezoned
as Medium Density Residential. The Watts Group has discussed with the neighbors on Country Club Drive their plan
for town homes and condos for the area. At this time, the neighborhood has not expressed a positive outlook on the
development.
Parks and Recreation Director Comments Proud noted that for the Clear Creek Trail, costs average a million dollars
per mile for Phase 6 and 7; $500,000 per mile on other phases of the trail system. Construction under the
interstate to the ballpark will be delayed due to the interstate interchange project. The trail system consists of 45
miles of overwide and/or paved trails. The older section of Coralville does not have as many connections and staff
continue to look at ways to develop more trail or on street accommodations.
Proud shared that over eighty people participated in the employment appreciation event which featured two food
trucks and yard games. Additional amenities are being added to Rotary Camp with fireplaces and shelter areas.
Altmaier Family Park will be featured with a family event September 30. Creekside Cross will feature their first event
of the season at the end of the month. Additional activities include a youth soccer tournament.
