City Council Meetings

CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 18, 2014 1. The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m., and was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. Councilmembers present were Mayor Dan Porter, Bob Archibeque, Ty Keel, Mayor Pro-tem Matt Keefauver, Shawna McLaughlin, and Karen Sheek. Councilmember Tom Butler was absent. Staff members present were City Manager Shane Hale and City Clerk Linda Smith. There was one person present in the audience. 2. NEW BUSINESS a. Special Event Permit for the Children’s Kiva. Mayor Porter stated that a request was received for the Children’s Kiva to host a fundraiser at the Heart and Core Yoga Studio, located at 30 West Main Street, on Sunday, February 23, 2014, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tessa Forth stated that the Children’s Kiva has approached the Montezuma’s Table which consists of three businesses including Pepperhead, The Farm, and Stonefish that raise money for local non-profits. She stated that in the past the Montezuma’s Table held a fundraiser for the Child Advocacy Center. She stated that the Children’s Kiva is a non-profit organization and offers another place for kindergarten children to attend school. She stated that the fundraiser would be used to offer scholarships to families that would like to send their children to the Children’s Kiva that otherwise would not be able to. She stated that this year joining the fundraising event would be Sol Pizzaria and the Heart and Core Yoga Studio. She stated that the event is an example of businesses working together cooperatively and the chefs from each of the businesses go to each of the venues to offer creative food. She thanked Council for having the Special Meeting to consider the Special Event Permit request. Councilmember McLaughlin moved that Council approve the Special Event Permit for the Children’s Kiva to host an event at Heart and Core Yoga Studio, located at 30 West Main Street, on February 23, 2014, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Councilmember Sheek seconded the motion, and the vote was as follows: Archibeque Butler Keefauver Keel McLaughlin Porter Sheek Yes absent Yes Yes Yes Yes Yes The meeting was adjourned at 5:40 p.m. ________________________________ Dan L.
