Laurie Hall, Susan Riggs, Dante Downey, and Ameena Hobbs came to thank the committee for its support of the Montezuma Food Coalition Hub & Spoke. Each talked about how the mural project influenced them. Laurie Hall noted that the sky portion of the mural will be done in the spring. Sonja added that the collaboration will continue with a new artists’ group that includes the student apprentices, the North St. & Beech Art Alliance Workshops. b. Shere Holleman, a Montezuma County resident, attended to observe the meeting. V. Old Business a. In-Kind Contributions and Volunteer Hours. Committee members were reminded of the need to report on in-kind and volunteer hours contributed to projects CPAAC has undertaken during the year. Sonja explained that the data is used to support budgeting and to aid any funding requests the committee might make. All member reports are to be in by the December meeting. b. Cottonwood Tree in Montezuma Park Project. The city manager, John Dougherty, has given the committee permission to retain the $5,000 funds set aside for the tree sculpture project this year. The money will be spent next year to complete the sculpture project in Montezuma Park. c. Fundraising. Kirbi Vaughn forwarded a request of members to consider what we want to fund, revenue streams, and the committee’s role, noting that she would send the request out to all in the next week. This topic will be addressed at the December meeting. d. 2019 Budget. Eric Ikenouye reported that he would have details on the committee’s budget after the city council work session this evening. Aaron noted that this is a mural maintenance year so a portion of the 2019 budget is reserved for that work. e. City Hall Exhibition, Mesa Verde Room and Student Lobby/publicity and response. The frames ordered by the city for student art have arrived. Both high school art departments have agreed to work with student curators to change the exhibition in the lobby. It will begin in December or January. Corinne agreed to work with the MCHS art department to coordinate changing the art. There are six frames—two are reserved for Southwest Open School student work and the remaining four are for Montezuma-Cortez High School student work. Ameena Hobbs indicated interest in assisting Corinne. Cortez Glass supplied glass for the framing. f. Mural Map Approval for Production. Tabled until the December meeting. g. Survey Approval. The draft Artist Survey/Registry form was attached to the meeting agenda for consideration prior to the meeting. After discussion, it was decided that ethnic categories would include: Anglo, African American, Latino, Asian, Native American (if yes, which tribe or pueblo), and other. The committee also added marketing to the list of art or performance needs in Cortez. Members will assist distributing. The survey among the artist communities in the city. Sonja asked Eric to check into AmeriCorps support for collating handwritten returns. VI. New Business. Business Art Map idea. Sonja suggested that the committee consider creating a map of local businesses that display and/or sell artworks. Mapping would provide people with a way to find art in Cortez—especially important due to the lack of dedicated gallery space for exhibition. The committee will revisit this topic in December. A February launch date to gather information would make it possible to produce the map in time for the tourist season, she said. VII. Draft Resolutions. None. VIII. Other Items of Business. None. IX. Additional Citizen Participation. None. X. City Staff Liaison Report. See “2019 Budget” above. XI. Committee Reports. See “Old Business.” XII. Upcoming: Next meeting, December 12, 2018. XIII. Adjournment. The committee adjourned at 4:30 P.M. by consensus. Respectfully submitted, Heidi N. Brugger
