Cortez Public Arts Advisory Committee (CPAAC) Monthly Meeting January 8, 2020, 3:45 p.m. Cortez City Hall Conference Room Present: Sonja Horoshko (Chair), Eric Ikenouye (City Liaison), Mark Allen, Chris Lindell, Alexandra York, and Shere Holleman. Absent with notice: Brenda Van Keuren (Vice-Chair). 1) Call to Order: Sonja called the meeting to order at 3:45 pm 2) Presentations: None 3) Citizen Participation: None 4) Old Business: a) Approve Minutes from 12/11/2019. Unanimous. b) Committee Appointments: i) Sonja mentioned that it is important to find citizens that can properly fill seat vacancies. ii) Chris mentioned the importance of having an evaluation process. iii) Shere agreed that there needs to be feedback. iv) Mark suggested the idea of a job interview-like process to benefit the candidates. v) Sonja also gave copies of the CPAAC projects during the past two years in an evaluation format as an example of how it could look and in the interest of measuring how each member has contributed to the committee during their term. Sonja stated that CPAAC has a lot of potential to further its impact in the community, therefore, adding to the importance of finding the right fit with committee applicants. vi) Sonja explained that the current committee membership structure represents diverse genres of arts operating within the city of Cortez. vii) Shere added that it is important to find a voice for each art genre. viii) Shere offered to work on CPAAC Ordinance revisions related to committee appointments. Sonja volunteered to help her with the process. c) CPAAC Music Performances: Chris explained the status of the planned local music event at the American Legion. The marketing, talent bookings and venue arrangements are all in place. The event represents reaching out to the diverse citizens of the community with music performance. The event will support citizens’ learning to appreciate the arts, and it offers patrons the opportunity to pay door admissions in support of music and entertainment performances. d) Gallery Wrap Up: All present read and accepted the Gallery Windows project report as submitted by Brenda. e) Water Anthology: Laurie Hall, the executive director of the Montezuma Food Coalition will present the Anthology project to the City Council in January to keep Council members informed on the literary project and answer any questions they may have. 5) New Business: None 6) Draft Resolutions/Ordinances: See 4) Old Business, b) Committee Appointments, viii) above. 7) Other Items of Business: None 8) Additional Citizen Participation: None 9) City Staff Liaison Report: a) Eric mentioned that an intern may take his place. At this time no decision has been made on his replacement as the CPAAC city liaison. Eric does not know who will take over after him. b) Sonja asked about where the CPAAC funds are listed in budgets. Eric explained that there are numerous places that the money may be placed in the name of CPAAC. 10) Committee reports: None 11) Adjournments: Alex motioned to adjourn the meeting. Chris seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 4: 45 p.m. 12) Next Meeting: February 12, 2020 at 3:45 p.m., at City Hall
