Board of Fire Commissioners Meeting Thursday, January 11, 2018 The regular meeting of the City of Cortland Board of Fire Commissioners was called to order at 5:16p.m. By Vice Chairman Paul Quinlan. Commission members present include: Vice Chair Paul Quinlan, Commissioner Chris Hotchkiss, Commissioner Dale Saddlemire, and Commissioner Bill Starr Excused: Chair Bonnie Heath Present at the meeting: Fire Chief Charles Glover, D/C Wayne Friedman, D/C Bill Knickerbocker, D/C Rich Allen, BOE President Jason Thorton, FF Chris Hines. Pledge of Allegiance. Moved by Commissioner Hotchkiss seconded by Commissioner Saddlemire to approve the December 2017 meeting minutes. All in favor, motion carried. Moved by Commissioner Hotchkiss Seconded by Commissioner Starr to approve the December 2017 paid staff sick report. All in favor, motion carried Reports: Fire Chief Glover: ● Have purchased a reliable computer program to assist with the policies, procedures, and updates within the fire department, many advantages with new program and implementing to staff on policy and procedure. ● Fire department has received a grant for window and trim repairs. We will start contacting for bids on the necessary aspects of the project. ● The new rescue is expected to arrive at Headquarters around June 1, 2018. ● Capt. Michael Ondrako has formally announced his retirement on January 25, 2018. ● New Fire Fighter interviews will be held on January 19, 2018, 3rd floor at Headquarters. ● Captain promotion interviews will also be conducted, commissioners are invited to assist with the interviews of candidates FF Jim Zelsnack, FF Donn Hewes, and FF Jeff Eldred. BOE Report ● Members have all approved and accepted the changes on the Constitution regarding the makeup of Board of Engineers by eliminating the individual company board representatives. ● Volunteers continue to have meetings with Mayor Tobin regarding goals and expectations. The Mayor has encouraged consolidation of the companies. ● FF Greg Maxwell has spoken with other area departments and insurance company regarding the 15-17 year olds, Jr. Firefighter program. There are many benefits to start younger participation and retention, still in discussion and in need of a program manager. Volunteer Updates:  N/A Old Business: ● Fire Chief Reports there is a delay in decommissioning the Municipal Fire Alarm loop as not everyone has completed their conversion to third party monitoring of their fire alarm systems. We are working with occupancies attempting to finalize their transition.
