CITY OF CORTLAND LANDSCAPE AND DESIGN COMMISSION Minutes - October13, 2021 Zoom meeting at 4:00 p.m. Members Present: Mike Dexter (chair), Paul Paradine, Diane Batzing Approve July 14, 2021 Minutes: Comm. Paradine, 1st, Comm. Dexter, 2nd Spring 2022 Tree Planting Planning • 20 trees to be planted with National Grid 10,000 Trees and Growing funds • 8 Arbor Day trees will be planted with NYSEG funds, per Comm. Paradine arrangements • 4 tree species have been selected • Comm. Dexter will meet with Norm Stitzel to make arrangements for tree selections at the Veterans Memorial at Court House Park. Recent Tree Concerns/Notes • Jim Maloney has determined that one tree on Bartlett St. is fine. One other tree will be removed by the City. • One tree will be removed on Randall St. and another tree will be trimmed away from the house. • Nine tall trees will be removed on Washington St. for a city water line project. Comm. Paradine feels very strongly that residents should be surveyed about tree replacement. • The new Visions Federal Credit Union to be opened on Clinton Ave. will be planting 6 underwire trees. • Comm. Batzing sent a letter to Mayor Tobin requesting American Rescue Plan Funding for trees but received a reply stating that the new mayor should make that decision after the election. Other • The City has received a check for $1000 from the National Grid 10,000 Trees and Growing program for planting 20 underwire trees in the 2021 tree program. • Comm. Batzing will call Alderman Michaels for input about ARPF tree funding. Following the election she will request a meeting with the new mayor to discuss our need for funds. • Jim Maloney and Comm.
