Dexter; 2nd, Comm. Quail Spring 2024 Tree Planting Planning • Home Town Suites would like to have trees. • Comm. Batzing has contacted Dale Tuttle at Aspinall’s Nursery in Chittenango regarding the purchase of a few Ruby Red Chestnut trees. He will look for spring availability. These would be paid for by our 10,000 Trees and Growing funding. Main St. Tree Planting Plan • LDC substitute suggestions for Main St. trees include the hackberry for the Kentucky coffee tree, sawtooth oak for the chinkapin oak, and the addition of three Sunburst honeylocusts for the pocket park where the ive pear trees will be removed. • Comm. Batzing will contact Jan Brath of Fisher Associates regarding their plan for multistem trees, clari ication of the maple species, suggested tree substitutions, and his mention of planters for some trees. NYS-DEC Inventory and Management Plan Grant Application Status • DEC Executive Director Gloria VanDuyne now states that awards will be announced by the end of the year. NYS-DEC Ash Tree Management Grant Opportunity • Funding is available for ash tree removals and for replanting. The application deadline is January 31, 2024. • Comm. Batzing will be working with Rich Cunningham of Thoma Development on the application. • Jim Maloney said that it is dif icult to ind arborists with line clearance certi ication. • Question: How can we ensure that property owners will accept a replacement tree?
