City of Cortland – Zoning Board of Appeals Zoning Board of Appeals City of Cortland Regular meeting of July 8, 2019 A regular meeting of the Zoning Board of Appeals was held on Monday, July 8, 2019 at 5:28 PM in the Mayor’s Conference Room at City Hall. Present: Commissioners Scott Steve, Juliene Ray, Abigail Cleary, Thomas Larson, Brett Barnes Absent: Commissioner Karen Leahy, Maria Manning Staff: Zoning Officer Bob Rhea Item #1 – 8 Frederick St. (Gross) – Area Variance (R2)  Reconstruction of the Driveway Tabled for another 30 days. Motion to table: Motion: Comm. Barnes Second: Comm. Larson Approved: Ayes – 4 Nays – 0 Item #2 – 15 Monroe Heights (Bentley) – Area Variance (R4)  4’ vegetative strip Tabled, needs a Site Plan Review first. Motion to table: Motion: Comm. Cleary Approved: Ayes – 4 Nays – 0 Item #3 – 84 Maple Ave (Ciotoli) – Area Variance (R2)  Privacy Fence Ms. Ciotoli was present to represent 84 Maple Ave. Also present was Ms. Prestigiacomo who is the neighbor to 84 Maple Ave where the fence is going. Mrs. Prestigiacomo is ok with removing the shorter section of fencing and continued the privacy fencing so that it all lines up & bumps into the existing fence. She would keep the section from their privacy fence to the front of their house. She also stated a Minutes of the July 8, 2019 Meeting 1  City of Cortland – Zoning Board of Appeals concern with the height of the new fence of 6ft and would like it around 4 or 5 feet in height. The finished side of the fence will be facing out towards the neighbor and the same in the front. Commissioner Steve recommended 5ft down the side that meets the neighbors fence and then drop down to 4ft on the East side. Motion to close the public hearing: Motion: Comm. Ray Second: Comm. Cleary Approved: Ayes – 4 Nays – 0 The Board reviewed the questions necessary for the deciding of granting or rejecting an area variance. Motion to approve with the 4ft on the east side and transition of the 5ft on the North side to the Western adjoining fence. Motion: Comm. Barnes Second: Comm. Ray Approved: Ayes – 4 Nays – 0 Approval of minutes Motion to table the minutes until next meeting as there are amendments to be made. Motion: Comm. Cleary Second: Comm.
