MINUTES Historic Preservation Commission June 5, 2025 City Hall, 100 W. Woodstock Street, Crystal Lake, IL 1) Call to Order B. Niequist called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. 2) Roll Call/Attendance The following Commission members were present: Zach Benkert, Ana Freund, Nancy Haskins, Bob Kosin, Brittany Niequist, Madison Sommerfield, and Bob Wyman. City Planner, Elizabeth Maxwell were present for staff. 3) Public Comment Sammy Vicas was present to let everyone know she can assist as a narrator for the trolley tour. 4) Approval of Minutes of the May 1, 2025 Regular Meeting A. Freund made a motion to approve the minutes of the May 1, 2025 meeting as presented. B. Kosin seconded the motion. On voice vote all voted aye. Motion passed. 5) Trolley Tour 2025 B. Niequist said the book has been a lot of work. It looks great and the stories are all ready. Most of the sponsors have paid and sent in an ad. There are a few more needed. B. Wyman stated he called the trolley car company to verify everything was ready for Sunday. They had a lengthy discussion about the route and the stops. Which homes should be stops, which should be discussed while moving and all the turns. B. Wyman said he can assist as the other wing person for Samantha. A. Freund said it would be good in the presentation to explain where the funds go. The Commission helps with grants and tips can be used to help raise money for the relocation of the Crystal Lake Academy building B. Niequist said she has concerns with the rising costs and how many hours were put into this. She believes the commission should be focusing on landmarking properties. In August they can discuss other ways to raise funds if they will not do a trolley tour in the future. The final thoughts about the trolley tour included discussion about setup and arriving at the Colonel Palmer House by 8:30 am. A. Freund said she can print out the sign in sheets and will cut off ticket sales by a specific time and then have day of sales. 6) Member Inquiries and Reports B. Kosin said the McCormick Park walk is scheduled for June 29 th. It will be a 30 minute walk from Pierson Street and start at 1:30. B. Kosin noted the Depot Train Station is still in review by the State. They have moved it to their October meeting. 1 7) Adjournment There being no further business, B. Wyman made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Z. Benkert seconded the motion. On voice vote, all members voted aye. The meeting adjourned at 4:00 p.m. 2
