~AD HOC REPORT~ Honorary Street Name Request: Elm Street for Rev. Bush Thursday, June 22, 2023 Chairman Henry called the meeting to order at 6:14 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2023. Present were Committee Members Jay Eriquez and Ben Chianese. From the City were Ray Yamin, Corporation Counsel Representative; John Kleinhans, Mayor’s Office; Jonathan Barney, Mayor’s Office. Ex Officio Member present: Councilman Rotello. Present from the public were Joanne Pearsall Evans (Petitioner); and Juanita Harris, Resident. Mr. Henry provided a brief overview of the honorary street name request. Furthermore, the City received a letter of support from by Pat Orsino. Mr. Yamin discussed the honorary naming process. Mr. Chianese recommended several street sign locations. Ms. Evans requested the Committee consider placing a plaque at Kennedy Park in addition to the three street signs. Mr. Rotello spoke in support of honoring Reverend Bush. He shared his experiences with Reverend Bush and his family. Mr. Yamin commented that the preferred street sign locations will be submitted to the Public Works Department for approval. A motion made by Councilman Eriquez, and seconded by Councilman Chianese, to recommend the adoption of a resolution designating and establishing an honorary renaming of Elm Street, as Reverend Rubin L. Bush Sr. Blvd., in recognition of Reverend Bush's extraordinary contributions to his church, his community, and his God, and to his beloved City Danbury. The motion carries unanimously. Mr. Chianese reiterated that the placement of the plaque and street signs will be evaluated by the Public Works Department. A motion made by Councilman Eriquez, and seconded by Councilman Chianese, to adjourn. The motion carries unanimously.
