CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES June 14, 2023 10:00 P.M. Via Videoconference (ZOOM) Roll Call: The meeting was called to order by Chair Susan Ward. Also present were Commissioners Rick Rogers and John Neumuller, Nelly Espinal, Chief Examiner, Fire Chief Richard Thode, Deputy Police Chief Mike Sturdevant, Aleyda Martinez, HR Assistant, Christina Norman, HR Generalist and member of the public James Santiago. Minutes: Meeting May 25th, 2023 Motion made by Chair Ward, seconded by Commissioner Rogers, to accept the meeting minutes dated May 25th, 2023. Motion carried unanimously. Personnel Status: Motion made by Commissioner Rogers, seconded by Commissioner Neumuller, to acknowledge the Personnel Statuses as follows: New Hires, 9 Police Officers Jeffrey Dotel, Dominic Barthelemy, Kenneth Benitez, Giuseppe Gentile, Minator Kryeziu, Matthew Molenda, Erick Murph, Glendalis Sotomayor and Derek Zutter. Motion carried unanimously. Motion made by Commissioner Rogers, seconded by Commissioner Neumuller, to acknowledge the Personnel Statuses as follows: New Hires, Patrick Cann, Public Health Inspector Terrence Duffy, Deputy Assessor, Melissa Llera, Secretary, and Lewis Yacko, MM III- Plumber. Motion carried unanimously. Motion made by Commissioner Rogers, seconded by Commissioner Neumuller, to acknowledge the Personnel Statuses as follows: Retirements: Rory De Rocco- Police Sergeant, Leonard La Bonia- Detective PO, John Halas- Fire Lieutenant, Dean Singer- Fire Lieutenant, Scott Yaglowski- Firefighter and Ray Guard- Deputy Fire Marshal. Motion carried unanimously. Motion made by Commissioner Rogers, seconded by Commissioner Neumuller, to acknowledge the Personnel Statuses as follows: Promotions: George Fabich- Police Lieutenant John Giafone- Police Sergeant, Brian Wakeman- Police Sergeant, Travis Weber- Detective Police Officer, Andrew Whitlock- Detective Police Officer, Kenneth Monteavaro- Fire Lieutenant, and Sharon Gies- Fire Lieutenant. Motion carried unanimously. New Business: Reversal of Candidate Rejection/Applicant Appeal: - Entry Level Firefighter Applicants___ Motion made by Commissioner Rogers, seconded by Commissioner Neumuller, to reverse and accept all 27 rejected applicants (spreadsheet attached) including applicant 53739574 who’s appeal was also accepted. Motion carried unanimously. Certification of the Entry Level Firefighter Eligibility List Motion made by Commissioner Rogers, seconded by Commissioner Neumuller, to certified the Entry Level Firefighter Eligibility list with an expiration date of June 14th, 2024. Motion carried unanimously. Request removal of candidates- Entry Level Police Officer Eligibility List Motion made by Commissioner Rogers, seconded by Chair Ward, to remove the candidates as listed on the spreadsheet provided to the Civil Service Commissioners (spreadsheet attached-26 applicants). Motion carried unanimously. Request removal of candidates- Certified Level Police Officer Eligibility List Motion made by Commissioner Rogers, seconded by Commissioner Neumuller, to remove the candidates as listed on the spreadsheet provided to the Civil Service Commissioners (spreadsheet attached-21 applicants). Motion carried unanimously. Qualification of Applications: - Assistant Tax Collector Motion made by Commissioner Rogers, seconded by Commissioner Neumuller, to accept the one; applicant 54018782 and that the Department Head interview be in lieu of testing. Motion carried unanimously. Motion made by Commissioner Rogers, seconded by Chair Ward, to add an item to the agenda. Motion carried unanimously.
