SUBJECT: Draft Minutes of the February 12, 2025, Dayton City Commission Meeting
CITY COMMISSION MEETING
On Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at 6:03 p.m., the Dayton City Commission met for the State
of the City at The Salvation Army Dayton Kroc Center.
CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Mims called the meeting to order.
INVOCATION
Commissioner Turner-Sloss gave the invocation.
COLOR GUARD
Meadowdale JROTC led the Color Guard.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
Mayor Mims led the public in the Pledge of Allegiance.
ROLL CALL
Roll call was taken, and Mayor Mims, Commissioners Joseph, Shaw, Fairchild, and Turner-Sloss
were present. The Clerk of the Commission, Ms. Regina Blackshear, was also present.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Commissioner Shaw made a motion to approve the minutes from the February 5, 2025,
meeting. Commissioner Fairchild seconded the motion. The previous meeting minutes were
unanimously approved.
STATE OF THE CITY
Ms. Regina Blackshear stated that the sole purpose of the meeting was to present the annual
State of the City address, highlighting past accomplishments and future initiatives.
Mr. Darius Beckham introduced the State of the City as a conversation between Ms. Fran
Robinson and the Mayor, Jeffery Mims.
SPECIAL PERFORMANCE
A special performance was given by Dayton’s first-ever Poet Laureate, Sierra Leone. She read a
piece written by Langston Hughes in 1945.
ADJOURNMENT
Mayor Mims closed with a message of love and peace for all and hatred for none before
adjourning the meeting at 6:56 p.m.
