CITY COMMISSION CITY OF DELRAY BEACH, FLORIDA MEETING - FRIDAY, MAY 12, 2023 8:00 AM DELRAY BEACH GOLF CLUB, 2200 HIGHLAND AVENUE Mayor Shelly Petrolia Vice Mayor Ryan Boylston Deputy Vice Mayor Rob Long Commissioner Adam Frankel Commissioner Angela Burns Goal Setting Workshop at 8:00 AM AGENDA Introductions • Welcome and agenda review • Norms and expectations for the workshop “This I Believe…” Each member of the City Commission will be given an opportunity to share their "beliefs" about the future of Delray Beach. Governing Body Roles and Effectiveness We will introduce six roles that must be fulfilled by the City Commission. We will discuss how each member of the Commission relates to each role and how that contributes to (or detracts from) group effectiveness. True Today - True in Ten Years Each person will be asked to share their response to the following questions: • What is true about Delray Beach today that you hope will still be true ten years from now? • What is not true about Delray Beach today that you hope will be true ten years from now? Key Focus Areas The Commission will explore developing Key Focus Areas based on the Commission’s thoughts about what they hope will be true in Delray Beach in ten years. The conversation will ensure the outcomes properly reflect this City Commission’s priorities. Defining Success and Priorities Once the Key Focus Areas are articulated, we will work to define success and explain what outcomes the Commission desires. These statements will provide broad direction to City Staff to develop workplans and budget recommendations that will move the City forward over the next 5 years. Commission members will also have the opportunity to share their individual priorities, Please be advised that if a person decides to appeal any decision made by the City Commission with respect to any matter considered at this meeting, such person will need to ensure that a verbatim record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is based. The Last Word We will end the Retreat with a discussion of next steps, and each participant will also be asked to share a reflection about the retreat.
