UNAPPROVED DERBY PARK AND URBAN FORESTRY BOARD MINUTES March 14, 2019 Call to Order: 11:00 A. M. Roll Call: Members Present Members Absent Marty Hunt Dave Foster David Peebler Jason Griffin Rick Dame Sherri Farmer Seth Berg Also in attendance were: Steve White, Parks Director, Robert Mendoza, Public Works Director and Shana Sneath, Public Works Coordinator. Approval of Minutes: Motion: David Peebler moved to approve the minutes of January 11, 2019 Second: Marty Hunt, second. Vote: All yea, motion carried unanimous. Open Forum: Mr. Mendoza updated the board on the potential sale of the property on Winding Lane that the City owns. There have been many discussions with the HOA of the Stone Creek Development, the school district and the City Council. Nothing has been decided yet. Old Business: Decarsky Park Update: The bid opening will occur on Monday, March 18. Playground Resurfacing Project: Mr. White informed the board that the slope to the south of the playground is washing away so it is being replaced with turf. There has been a little delay due to the weather. RRR Resurfacing: This project is almost complete, the weather has played a factor. 1 Tree City USA: Derby has been designated as a Tree City USA for the 26th year in a row. We will be visiting 2 schools to celebrate Arbor Day. The Parks staff will plant a tree and Mr. White will speak about the importance of trees. Year of Celebration: The signs that coincide with the Sesquicentennial celebration will be up in the fall. City Hall Tree Project: The trees are being removed on the west side. Thirty two new trees will be planted. Other: The Skate Park has seen some vandalism and there is no line of site for law enforcement to see the users. The building is in need of repair. There will be further discussions on the future design of the facility. The crews have been busy clearing log jams. The sign at Woodland Valley park has been rebuilt, the signage for the playgrounds and parks are being updated. The fireside portion of the venue has been filled in with concrete as the trees that were planted in that area died. Two playgrounds in Hand Park have had a new mulch. The screens have been put up in the Pavilion to block the splash pad. A music festival will accompany the Smoke on the Plains Festival, June 6,7,8th New Business: Dog Park Rules Discussion: The group received handouts concerning rules and regulations for the dog park. The copies are drafts. Mr. White asked them to take them home and review them for future discussion. Motion to adjourn: Dave Peebler moved to adjourn the March 14, 2019 PUF meeting.
