APPROVED MINUTES SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY BOARD 10:05 AM March 7, 2018 CITY OF DERBY ROLL CALL GERALD BROWNLEE JANICE NEAGLE JIM BURGESS DIANE SCHMITT, TREASURER TOM DAVIDSON, SECRETARY ELEANOR UNDERWOOD, CHAIR DUANE DAY, VICE CHAIR CITY STAFF TED AUSTIN - ABSENT BREANNA MONK KIM HART – ABSENT Public Forum Agenda Item #1 Open Forum – Administrator’s comments – Board comments RE: NISC Award BreAnna Monk let the Advisory Board know the National Council of Aging said she will be presented the NISC Award for the Diabetes 101 program in June at the National Senior Center Conference in South Carolina. RE: Annual Report BreAnna thanked the Board Members who attended the February 27th City Council Meeting where she gave the Derby Senior Center / Derby Dash Annual Report. RE: Zentangle Eggs BreAnna let the Board know there will be a couple events this year that include bringing grandchildren. The first one will be Zentangle Eggs on March 19th at 2:00 PM. BreAnna said she will be sending out a voice call to invite the patrons. The cost is $2 per egg. Agenda Item #2 RE: Advisory Board Fund Report February 2018. Diane Schmitt gave the report for February 2018. The expenses for February totaled $719.18 and the revenue totaled $412 with an ending balance $15,777.64. 1 MOTION: Duane Day made a motion to approve the Advisory Board Fund Report February 7, 2018. Tom Davidson seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #3 RE: Approve February 7, 2018 Minutes. MOTION: Tom Davidson made a motion to approve the February 7th, 2018 Minutes. Jim Burgess seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #4 RE: Approve February 2018 Derby Dash Scholarship Report BreAnna Monk gave the report for the February 2018 Derby Dash Scholarship Report. $0 used in February for scholarships which leaves an ending balance of $223. MOTION: Gerald Brownlee made a motion to approve the Derby Dash Scholarship Report for February 2018. Janice Neagle seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #5 RE: TNT BreAnna Monk gave the TNT report and menu for February 2018, the meal was Wendy’s Chili and there was a total of 68 served. There was a total profit of 181.35. Agenda Item #6 RE: Comment Cards BreAnna Monk read the Comment Cards to the Advisory Board. Discussion was held. Agenda Item #7 RE: Covered Dish Janice Neagle will pick up the chicken for the April Covered Dish Lunch. 2 Agenda Item #8 RE: Center Updates BreAnna said there were several missing items purchased for the Senior Center Kitchen. The items were a can opener, toaster, mixer and she will be ordering a small chopper and an 18-quart roaster. The existing roaster has now stopped working. These items will help with the TNT meals. BreAnna said she also purchased four massage chairs that the seniors can use. These chairs will be kept in the Health Room. Agenda Item #9 RE: Can We Talk – Short Overnight Trips BreAnna Monk said she has sent out a voice call to invite all members to the Can We Talk program on short overnight trips with Getaway Easy Travel on March 8th at 6:00 PM. Agenda Item #10 RE: City Council Letter BreAnna Monk read a response letter from Kathy Sexton regarding the trees in back of the senior center. Kathy stated they are in the process of evaluating the situation and the health of the trees. Agenda Item #11 RE: Garden Club BreAnna Monk said she officially has 5 people that are dedicated to this project. The vegetables grown in the community garden will be brought to the Derby Senior Center to distribute. BreAnna said the project will be overseen by Master Gardner’s from the County Extension office and she hopes to make this an annual project. Agenda Item #12 RE: Farmers Brothers Tea & Coffee Flavorings BreAnna Monk asked the Board if they would be interested in offering flavored tea. Discussion was held and it was decided to contact Farmers Brothers for a proposal and offer flavored tea on a trial basis. ADJOURNMENT MOTION: Gerald Brownlee made a motion for adjournment.
