APPROVED MINUTES SENIOR CENTER ADVISORY BOARD CITY OF DERBY April 14, 2021 9:11 AM ROLL CALL JIM BURGESS DIANE SCHMITT, TREASURER DIXIE CHAPMAN – VICE CHAIRMAN ELEANOR UNDERWOOD, CHAIRMAN TOM DAVIDSON, SECRETARY MARSHA VOLZ JANICE NEAGLE CITY STAFF KIEL MANGUS - ABSENT BREANNA MONK KIM HART Public Forum Agenda Item #1 RE: Headsets BreAnna stated there was a headset and speaker purchased and Laura was speaking to the Instructors to let them know. RE: Channel 7 Exercise Class BreAnna explained that the Pilates Exercise Class should now be on Channel 7 so patrons can exercise at home. RE: Name Tags BreAnna handed out the new name tag to each Board Member. RE: Computer Room Closed BreAnna stated laminated signs have been made and will be hung when the Computer Lab is closed for construction. This will be scheduled in the near future and the counter tops will be raised to be ADA compliant. BreAnna said she is still working on the Grants for this construction. RE: Dominos Dixie Chapman asked if the Domino players could move to the back of the Game Room since they were so noisy. BreAnna said she will open up the Domino Room and move them back in there. BreAnna will put the felt table covers back on the tables. RE: AARP Driving Class 1 BreAnna said AARP contacted Laura to let her know there will be no Driver Safety classes starting back up until September 2021. RE: Food Handlers Safety Classes Dixie Chapman asked BreAnna if there would be Food Handlers classes starting back up and BreAnna stated not with an instructor. BreAnna stated patrons can take the online class and it is required at the Derby Senior Center when handling food. RE: Dance Class Mirror BreAnna let staff know she is looking into putting mirrors up on half the Classroom for the Tap and dance classes. She said they may possibly move a TV to do this. Discussion was held and Diane Schmitt was going to bring information on full size, free standing mirrors to the next meeting to discuss further. Agenda Item #2 RE: Advisory Board Fund Report March 2021. Diane Schmitt gave the report for the Advisory Board Fund report March 2021. Diane said there was $208 in revenue and $498.22 in expenses for a total balance $17,789.75. MOTION: Tom Davidson moved the Advisory Board Fund Report for March 2021 be approved: Dixie Chapman seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #3 RE: Approve March 10, 2021 Minutes. MOTION: Jim Burgess made a motion to approve the March 10, 2021 minutes. Janice Neagle seconded. VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #4 RE: Approve March 2021 Derby Dash Scholarship Report BreAnna gave the February 2021 Derby Dash Scholarship Report. $0 were used for senior scholarships. BreAnna said the non-senior Derby Dash Scholarship Program used $312 for an ending balance of $2,164. MOTION: Diane Schmitt made a motion to approve the Derby Dash Scholarship Report for March 2021. Tom Davidson seconded. 2 VOTE: 6 yea, motion carried Agenda Item #5 RE: Suggestion Cards BreAnna read the suggestion cards to the board. One of the suggestions was to provide more information about the COVID-19 shots. BreAnna stated there will be signs made to contact the staff if anyone needs assistance finding a location or signing up for the shot. The second suggestion was about the talking in the Cardio Core and More exercise class. BreAnna said they are going to speak to Taryn about using the headset and speaker. Agenda Item #6 RE: COVID-19 Updates BreAnna said the Derby Senior Center is staying current on the CDC and Department on Aging guidelines for COVID-19. Agenda Item #7 RE: National Accreditation BreAnna let the Board know all the meetings are now done and all she has left to do is to compile all the information that was gathered from the meetings and to assemble it. Agenda Item #8 RE: Senior Garden BreAnna showed the Advisory Board a diagram of the Senior Garden which is going to be 200’ x 88’. BreAnna stated that Lowes East have donated all the wood needed for the garden and Mike Rodriguez a contractor will donate the concrete needed; she is still working on donations. Discussion was held and it was suggested a plaque be hung with the businesses that donated to the garden and an article in the Prime Times and Informer to recognize them. BreAnna asked the Board if they would consider a donation to purchase the shed needed to store all equipment safely. MOTION: Dixie Chapman made a motion that the Board donate $2893 plus installation and fees to purchase the shed needed for the Senior Garden. Tom Davidson seconded.
